Can you give NPCs weapon skins?

Can you give weapon skins to NPCs’ weapons, like if you make the NPC holding a gun or other weapon, can you make the weapon have a skin? If so, how do I do it?

No, you can’t.

In the traditional sense, no, but if you’re willing to get whatever gun needed for your NPC and retexture it using a given skin, that could be a decent loophole for it to work.

*Note: It would count as a new item.
