Curated Content

In 3.0, maps are curated, along with the guns that come with them. Not much else could really be added in terms of curated things because of modding being fairly restrictive.

In U2 its been shown that pretty much everything will be modifiable, allowing members of the modding community to have a far wider reach in terms of changing/adding content, whether it be maps items or entire mechanics.

If in the future, some modders are able to follow the exact style of U2, and nelson and the community (with nelsons wishes coming first to prevent another 3.0) are in favor of an addition/change, it would be interesting for that addition to be mainlined into the game. This would lead to more content, which wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing like it sort of is in 3.0 with how the game loads itself, and would also take some weight off of nelsons shoulders in terms of workload.

The downsides of this would be leading to bloat if done too much, where the game just takes up a ton of space, and possible poor/spaghetti code making the game less optimized, but if there is enough quality checking for the curation (unlike in 3 lol) this could be prevented

Obligatory poll:

  • Curation of small game mechanics
  • No curation of small game mechanics

Game mechanics should never be curated, but instead have official implementations inspired by the original mods.

Minecraft comes to mind, with its pistons and horses.

Basic content like firearms I think should be able to be accepted (but with heavy oversight) but I agree with you on game mechanics.

Just for clarification, by you do you mean me or molt

I would like it if Nelson worked with those modders to bring their original content up to vanilla standards, or if he atleast gave better recognition to them than Minecraft did.

What kind of better recognition? Afaik they’re listed in the credits, and Jeb/Notch/etc. used their assets as a baseline. Are you thinking in-game Easter eggs?

I think he meant me, as decided by the

Molt (aaaaaaaaaa)

Oh yeah didnt catch the like.

Why not cut out the middle man though? If the addition is going to be implemented, why remake it? (Assuming the code is up to certain standards)

Also for the minecraft thing, the modder straight up gave one of the devs the code. He wanted it to be added. No idea if hes in the credits though.
