I am Heavy Weapons Guy

Ammunition

Not just high explosive projectiles, but also training slugs, shotshells, flares, smoke canisters, and blanks should be available for these weapons. Wasting the ammunition of these weapons should not just be discouraged by the rarity of the ammunition, as players would simply hoard it until they have enough, but also by the amount of handloading components that each cartridge could be turned into. Handloading should be essential to having a steady supply of any cartridge except perhaps the most common ones like 9 Parabellum, 5.56 OTAN, .22 LR, and 12 gauge shells. Explosive projectiles should not be craftable just by using the same explosives that are used as propellants.

Standalone grenade launchers

Used as primary weapons. Can be safely fired from the hip or the shoulder. More durable and powerful than grenade launching attachments. More efficient propellant usage than recoilless guns.

  • single shot grenade launcher
More durable, reliable, and faster reloading than multishot grenade launchers. More powerful than riot guns.
  • single shot riot gun
Most durable and reliable type of standalone grenade launcher. Cheaper ammo than grenade launchers.
  • multi shot grenade launcher
Faster RoF than single shot standalone launchers. More powerful than riot guns.
  • multi shot riot gun
Faster RoF than single shot standalone launchers. More durable than multishot grenade launchers. Cheaper ammo than grenade launchers.
“Recoilless” Guns

Used as primary weapons. Can be safely fired from the hip or the shoulder. Less recoil than grenade launching attachments or standalone grenade launchers. More durable and powerful than Grenade launching attachments.

  • rocket launcher

  • recoilless gun

Grenade Launching Attachments

Attached to primary weapons. Can safely be fired from the shoulder or the hip. More versatile than standalone grenade. launchers or Recoilless guns. More efficient than recoilless guns.

  • underbarrel grenade launcher
Doesn’t interfere with the weapon’s normal usage. More powerful than riot guns or smart grenade launchers. Cheaper ammo than smart grenade launchers.
  • smart grenade launcher
Integral to the weapon and has an integral sight, but other than that doesn’t interfere with the weapon’s normal usage. Zeroing the integral sight sets the fuse on the projectile. More powerful than riot guns.
  • underbarrel riot gun
Doesn’t interfere with the weapon’s normal usage. Most durable and reliable type of grenade launching attachment. Cheapest ammo of any grenade launching attachment.
  • gas trap rifle grenade launcher
The launcher itself doesn’t interfere with normal usage of the weapon, but if the launcher is loaded firing the rifle will also launch the grenade. Unlike other rifle grenade launchers, it can safely be fired from the hip or the shoulder. Unlike other grenade launching attachments, it can also be braced against the ground and operated like a mortar. It is more powerful than smart grenade launchers or riot guns, but less powerful and durable than other rifle grenade launchers. Ammunition can be used as hand grenades.
Rifle Grenade Launchers

Attached to primary weapons. Do not interfere with normal usage of the weapon, until they are loaded with a grenade. When loaded with a grenade, they cannot be safely fired from the shoulder or the hip, and instead must be braced against the ground and operated like a mortar. Most cannot be safely and repeatedly launched with live ammunition, only with blanks.

  • rifle grenade cup
More durable and reliable than gas trap rifle grenade launchers. Causes less barrel wear than rod type rifle grenades. ammunition can be used as hand grenades.
  • rifle grenade spigot
The launchers can have other functions as muzzle attachments. More durable and reliable than gas trap rifle grenade launchers. Causes less barrel wear than rod type rifle grenades.
  • rod type rifle grenade
Do not require a specific muzzle attachment. Ammunition can be used as hand grenades.
Equippable Mortars

Used as primary weapons. Cannot safely be fired from the shoulder or the hip. Must be braced against the ground and operated as mortars. More compact than a rifle with a rifle grenade launcher attached.

  • knee mortar
Ammunition can be used as hand grenades or rifle grenades.
  • commando mortar
Ammunition can be used in other mortars.
Placeable Mortars

Used as buildables. Once placed, can be interacted with and operated as a mortar.

  • infantry mortar

  • Hale rocket launcher

Dischargers

Used as buildables. Their aim is set while being placed. Can be fired manually, or triggered by a system to fire them remotely and/or simultaneously.

  • smoke discharger
More efficient propellant usage than Congreve rockets. More accurate than Congreve rockets. Can be used for very low pressure grenade launching, flare launching, smoke discharging, gas discharging, or anti-RADAR chaff dispersion.
  • Congreve rocket
Greater range, higher velocity, and higher damage than smoke dischargers.
Mounted Weapons

Cannot even be loaded until put on a mount. Map makers should have the choice to either include placeable mounts in the spawn tables, or to decide where mounts will be and how much traverse and elevation adjustment the mounts will allow. Placeable mounts, mounted weapons, and their belt boxes should each be too large for a single player to carry all three at once, so they cannot be set up or moved very quickly. They have highly sustainable fire, relative to the amount of firepower they have and thanks to their mounts they are controllable and accurate.

  • heavy machine gun (water cooled)
Most durable, most reliable, most heat resistant, and sustainable type of mounted weapon.
  • heavy machine gun (.50 cal)
More powerful than water cooled guns. More durable, reliable, heat resistant, and sustainable than automatic grenade launchers and auto cannons.
  • automatic grenade launcher
Largest and most powerful projectiles of any mounted weapon.
  • autocannon
Largest and most powerful cartridges of any mounted weapon.
Placed Mounts, Weapons, and Traps

The placement of weapons, traps, and weapon mounts might need to be restricted when in close proximity to safezones, claimed areas, or default spawn points.
Other weapons besides dedicated mounted weapons might be used in mounts to benefit from increased control and accuracy, but at the cost of being locked in place while using the mount.

Mortar Operation

Bracing a weapon against the ground for indirect fire should use the same mechanics as using a bipod. If bipods are handled as if they function as long as the player is prone like in 3.X, commando mortars will work the same way. If bipods will automatically deploy when the game detects that the player is standing still and has a suitable surface in front of them like in Bf1, commando mortars will work like that. If bipods need to be manually deployed like in a milsim, commando mortars will work like that.
The elevation of mortars should be controlled by where the mortar is zeroed to. Only windage would be controlled by where the player is looking, this way the player can watch any point on the mortar shell’s arc, without it causing the mortar to lose it’s point of aim.
