As someone with 1.5k hours who plays every day with friends who have upward of 3k hours, I believe I’ve been through this game and I’ve seen what it has to offer. Working through some of these ideas is the main topic of discussion with them when I talk to them on Discord as well. I have 2 suggestions I’ll be talking about today, number one is a new LMG system and a grenade overhaul. I’m sure people have suggested these before but I wanted to bring my own suggestion to the table. My suggestion for the LMGs is a new subclass of LMGs being combat LMGs. This may sound crazy but hear me out. These LMGs would be assault rifle damage (or lower) with a slightly higher ammo pool and a Heartbreaker fire rate. These weapons would not do damage to bases and maybe use a seperare ammunition type. They would be between the rifles and the LMGs in rarity. My suggestion for the guns themselves are the DP-28 with the 47 round pan and the M27.
For the grenade overhaul I would increase the regular throwing range by 25-30 percent, add a way to “cook” grenades, and make smoke grenades more viable by having them be rarer and lay thicker smoke. I hope these ideas are at least looked at, have a good one.

so…SAWs.
before you point out the minimi, that’s an LMG. americans are just weird.
I changed the title of the post since it wasn’t really informative to the actual post content.
I hope 4.x has more classes of machine guns. SAW/LSWs That do low damage, but use common ammunition. General-Purpose/Universal Machine Guns with quick change barrels.
I don’t see the use in hotswap barrels, but I agree that LMGs should have a lighter counterpart in Support Weapons
LMGs:
Heavier, belt-fed firearms that pack more punch at the cost of higher recoil and lower mobility. Can destroy structures.
Support Weapons:
Mag-Fed firearms designed to take the role of an LMG, but are lighter and more comparable to an Assault Rifle.
Support weapons would be unclear, as that could refer to a variety of weapons, and usually not hand held weapons.
Forgotten Weapons did a video on machine gun terminology, that might be helpful, https://www.forgottenweapons.com/machine-gun-terminology-lmg-mmg-saw-lsw-hmg-gpmg/
Ian McCullin also covers the utility of quick change barrels.
This is just the terminology I’m using, and if you guys would care to explain where the names you’re using come from, I feel that might be helpful as well.
Also the SAW is a SAW it’s a machine gun that feeds from the same intermediate cartridge as the standard issues rifle, and (unreliably) feeds from there magazines.
I didn’t know the terminology, my bad
