Quite a while ago now - April 2022 - we received bug reports from players jumping into the gap between hay bales and the ceiling in barns on PEI and Russia. Something about this spot would cause you to get stuck “falling”, and it wasn’t possible to escape because you couldn’t crouch or go prone.
This led to the change allowing prone and crouch stance changes while mid-air.
There are some downsides to this, notably going prone at the apex of your jump to shoot over walls while only exposing your head.
I’m wondering about adding a cooldown that would prevent crouching or going prone shortly after jumping. How do you feel about this idea?
That said, there are (“legitimate”?) uses for this like diving through small windows.
I feel as if there was a cooldown to jump crouching that it would probably make the movement more sluggish.
Also I’ve had to deal with plate buildable that are usually hard to navigate and the current movement has allowed me to really handle and get around these buildable (aka parkour around) quite nicely. This is all to say, I like the current movement.
I think you can make it as an option to choose in a server. If you do this you can ruin parkour in Unturned. Also a lot of PvP players depend on such jump picks with prone, I think you will get a bad feedback.
That sounds quite disruptive / confusing for the player. I think if anything there needs to be some kind of “logic” and cooldowns to changing stances as a whole, being able to spam different stances (mostly just prone/unprone) is more problematic than just being able to go prone while mid-air. I think what would be welcome to see to resolve some of these problems would be:
remove the ability to change your stance more than once while in a jump and impose a cooldown on changing a stance after you land, that way if you go prone during a jump you cannot unprone mid-air and you need to land and wait X amount of time before you can unprone,
this second point is kinda off-topic but at the same time very much related to stance discussion - cooldown for changing stances if you do spam them, CS 2 (GO) and many other games feature a system that slows down crouching if you attempt to spam it, while crouch in unturned is hardly beneficial, the idea of this system lends itself to going prone in unturned which almost instantly changes your silhouette and might make your oppnents miss their shots, just as going crouch does in CS.
This is probably also true, I can see this change easily annoying the same crowd that got angry with Maplestrike grip slot being removed, these changes would probably work best as config options as to not infringe on “hardcore sandbox pvp”.
