Zombie Weakpoints

Something that always bothered me in unturned is the way zombies worked. They kinda just lined up and you would punch them in the head until they died. While this was fine its kind of mind numbing and not fun. Instead what about a new system for how the zombies work:

note: this does not apply to special zombies

Regular zombies will all spawn with a place on their body that is considered a “weak point” When players get close to a zombie it will highlight slightly (or become visible in some other way, maybe just be a more injured part.) Hitting this spot with basically any weapon will oneshot said zombie, thus making zombies more interesting to fight than the “hit every zombie in the head until they die” meta.

Q: Won’t this make zombies way easier to fight?

A: With this system in place it will be easier to make more zombies in cities, as each zombie is easier to kill, but a horde is still a threat, as you can’t stop to one shot every zombie. Thus making zombies more strength in numbers then by themselves.

Q: What if I can’t find a weak point on a zombie?

A: You can still damage them normally but it will take more hits.

There are many different ways this idea could be used, such as making the weak points only highlight with a certain skill, or even adding weak points to bosses (imagine a mega zombie that you had to flank to hit!).

Let me know what you think below! (if somebody already suggested this I’m going to be very mad)

zombies should have vital points like those of the player

head
organs
legs

i dont like your concept.

Why not keep the old ‘Blow their brains out to kill faster’ concept instead of this strange ‘pop their randomly placed tumor to kill them’ mechanic

I don’t see the need for this thing

I like the idea of clothed zombies, where the clothes actually provide protection to a certain degree. I like the idea that when a zombie has a military helmet, but has like, a shirt on his chest, leaving him more vulnerable on the chest area, than the head. If there’s makeshift weapons, like in Rust, that are generally weaker than actually manufactured weapons, that would make it interesting. Imagine you have a crossbow make out of wood. Weak as hell, but gets the job done. You have 2 options: Shoot the zombie in the head 4 times, or shoot him on the chest 3 times. (Of course, that applies to other types of armor and such.
I’m heavily against the “highlight” and “damaged parts” things, it’s pretty unnecessary and random.
It’s not so hard to see that a zombie has a helmet, but doesn’t have a vest, with your own eyes, why add that highlight thing.
Clothing SHOULD provide stats to, if it was to be more realistic and provide that little bit of thinking before you start smashing a zombie to death. Maybe if you shoot the helmet, it will degrade in quality, but i don’t know about that. Anyways, that’s my idea
(Edit: I didn’t mean to reply to you, Kylie. Just to avoid any confusion)

To clarify: this is already a thing in Unturned 3.

Hitting zombies in the head all the time is pretty boring and easy to do, there is no real strategy to it. These “tumors” don’t have to be just random places, they can look like a good idea to hit. One zombie might be limping with one leg so if you hit the weak leg down he goes. Or another guy could be all armored up except for his neck. Etc Etc.

It would mainly exist to spice up gameplay as well as allow a one shot system for players that isn’t as simple as hitting heads.

One shot system is what turned 4.0 into a pvp. Based game.

Great Scott! Marty, you have to give spoiler warnings before telling people about the future. There’s no telling what alterations to the timeline you’ve already made.

I don’t understand how a one shot for zombies makes pvp more prevalent, this isn’t meant to make the zombies less of a threat, just make them more interesting to fight. They should absolutely be harder in 4.0.

I think this is a little bit too compicated and unnecessary for an indie survival game made by 1 person.

It would take some effort but not nearly as much as some of the other things Nelson has done before, like making an unturned economy!

I feel really stupid, now that i remember…
