A new melee system

FIirst off, Hi im new around here forgive me if I do something wrong.

So the melee in unturned is fine on my opinion but I’d like to see it changed in 4.x, Idk if nelson mentioned changing the melee system or not but I’d like a system kind of like dying light, but in that game the most entities have ragdolls (which nelson said would be possible in 4.x).

so I what do you think nelson would/should make it like?
I think it’ll make melee combat and even hand to hand combat be a thing (tackling, grabbing, maybe even kicking, etc).

EDIT: if anyone remembers\knows clone drone in the danger zone, thats what i’d like.
swinging and getting a hit, Maybe even the directional swing system it has (e.g. hold one of the movement keys to do a different move, like holdimg s to go backwards, Attack and if say you’re using a bat you swing from top to bottom, same with sides)
what ever nelson does though, Im possitive that it won’t be disappointing

P.S. i apologize for my previous profile picture, didn’t think that people would dislike it that much.

Pls change your profile pic.

Yeah. Cause suicide isn’t something you should joke about.

There’s alot of these profile pics and I don’t like it at all. (Btw I didn’t get suicidal thoughts)

New pic please.

Change it to an Ushanka

OK. To get this back on topic, I’d say that tackling/grabbing is unnecessary, but kicking seems pretty good. Also, if there was a way to block certain attacks, kind of like For Honor, then it would add another layer of skill to melee fights.

On the topic of suicide, whether you want to or not is entirely subjective and shouldn’t concern anybody around you unless you have some emotional value to them, in which case, remember you have absolutely all the power in the world to ignore them and proceed with killing yourself.

There is absolutely no reason to attempt to stop somebody from committing suicide, if they don’t affect you in any way, or will not contribute majorly to society, and it may be encouraged if the person is a criminal (Views displayed in this sentence are subjective, I don’t know what you normal folk think when somebody thinks they’re a worthless trash pile, certainly not what I do).

Remember kids- vigilante justice might be illegal in your country, so stopping a suicide attempt might be illegal too (If your country doesn’t condone suicide).

Another profile picture for OP.

Here is the relevant paragraph

I think the added complication of the melee system this thread suggests, is entirely unnecessary and it is fine as it is (With the exception of blocking, we need some blocking).

I can actually make a more in-depth post about this… I have some ideas that could help without complicating it.

why are most of the comments here complaining about OP’s PFP which is basically a fucking discord meme

This post is filled with just a ton of suicide condonements and then this really large reply on suicide empowerment and I really don’t know why considering there’s…

Hey I’m real reply! \o/

I’d like to see it changed too, because in my opinion it’s not fine currently. Currently, melee is quite useless, generic, boring, repetitive, etc. The only melee weapons worth using are the ones that attack continuously, and the flashlight I guess if you just want some light in your life.

He has, often. https://wiki.smartlydressedgames.com/Upcoming_Features#Melee

I’ve never played Dying Light, and haven’t watched all too much gameplay of it (despite meaning to), so I pulled up a video. Couldn’t quite figure out what you mean, besides that it seems to be quite fast-paced, with a lot of jumping over zombies, dropkicks, and fast melee swipes. Even when it slows down the game seems to encourage using things like throwable knives, and dashing backwards after lil’ pokes.

I’m not sure at what point the game relies on ragdolls though.

I don’t think Unturned’s melee should replicate Dying Light, that seems like it’d be incredibly awkward, and look even weirder in the Unturned art style. Instead, I’d stick with just making melee combat a bit more dynamic, and making more things usable as a melee weapon.

Why can we not pummel people with socket wrenches? Why can’t we throw any item we want? Why can we not have spears, or what about fire extinguishers that aren’t limited to either being solely a ranged weapon or solely a melee weapon? What about that original idea of Nelson for putting barbed wire on melee, like an attachment system, and fuel into chainsaws? Why can’t we block?

That kind of stuff is what I’d prefer getting. Make the melee system more dynamic in vanilla, and for modders. I’m not saying go Chivalry on the game though, with different mouse swipes causing different attack animations.
