Sleeping to advance the clock is a game mechanic older than most gamers.
In a muliplayer game it makes sense to require all players to sleep at the same time; many games employ this by design.

I think it’s for making night and day realistic in multiplayer(if some one sleep the night become day but in a multiplayer server it’s a bit anoying to have “random” night duration because of other players).
