It would be nice and easier to make a private server to play with friends without trying to search for external things like hamachi , evolve or rent for a hosted server. It is possible to make a party / lobby to invite friends , select a map and play on it without searching on different types of servers?
No, but it’s not that difficult to make your own server through port forwarding. Plug-n-play menu-based hosting may be a thing in the far future, however.

Plug-n-play probably won’t be a thing in 3.0 (I believe a while ago Nelson said he tried to make it work but couldn’t because of coding restrictions he accidentally created while making 3.0). However, it is on the Wishlist for 4.0

It was technically on the wishlist for Unturned 3 also (as the “Listen servers” card). The only noted reasons it was unlikely to happen soon (if at all) was because of the reasons you brought up. However, I do not recall an affirmative “couldn’t,” just that it would be unlikely/difficult to.
