Deadzones in their current state are really not worth going to. The struggle of having to find a gas mask, multiple filters and proper protective gear is really unnecessary on most maps since you can get the exact same high tier loot in non-irradiated places. But what if there was something exclusive to the deadzones? Something that would provide the player with some sort of advantage and that would make the struggle of visiting them worth it? Something that would make the deadzone look more alive? (ironically)
Well I thought of a neat concept: mutant animals. This idea came to me a while back when someone suggested adding mutants like giant spiders to the game. These animals would be genetically modified versions of the non-mutant ones only spawning in deadzones (large ones like Silo 22, the Greek Meteora and Cologne), with distinct physical features like greener fur and special abilities (duh).
Some interesting concepts I have come up with are:
Two-headed deer with double the health and twice the speed of a normal one (non-aggressive in general, though it will charge antler-first into the player if absolutely threatened; drops a special kind animal pelt/antlers, which could be used for armor/what not).
A mad cow which sprints at you and attacks you if you get too close to it (least aggressive, same health/attack as a zombie, also drops rare materials and a carton of milk which you probably shouldnât drink).
A boomer pig which quickly nears you after triggering it; exploding once near the player (a bigger threat in terms of damage and radiation; only drops items if killed before âdetonatingâ)
The âflanker houndâ which basically functions the same as a flanker zombie, except with the attack stats of a wolf; the HP would be much lower though (turns invisible while attacking, it would be loud which would make it easier to detect; also drops the second rarest tier of materials which a mutant can drop).
The big guy, the âbullet eaterâ, is a bear which, while on the outside might look like a regular olâ bear, has five times the health of a regular one (the heaviest out of them all in terms of damage and overall the biggest nuisance; would also drop the highest tier of materials, maybe even an exclusive item/trophy once killed).
^All of these would explode in a big green goo once killed, similarly to the zombies found in deadzones
It should also be mentioned that eating the meat of any of these animals would give you a bad time to say the least, if not purified prior.
I literally edited these images in about 15 minutes so I would like to apologize if theyâre not the highest quality.
That is my quick suggestion I put together for this post. Hopefully if anything of this sort ever gets added into the game, even in 4.0, deadzones will play a much more important role in the survival experience.
EDIT:Tweaked the bear and wolf suggestions to make them less op/better explain their abilities
Those images were decently edited. You misspelled âis invisible.â The only reservations I have are against the wolf and bear. The wolf is fast enough as is, and because animals have no borders to where theyâll chase you, they seem like a major nuisance. If by âmost aggressive,â you meant that the bear would detect players from the furthest distance, I think that would be a problem, since players that canât damage it might get spotted before they even see it. The radio active bear should be visually distinct from a regular bear (remember regular animals can wander into a deadzone) and it shouldnât be too hard to sneak past. I feel it would add more to the game to have tense moments of trying to sneak past powerful enemies than to have invincibears attack out of nowhere.
Well, I only explained them briefly, but yes, the bear shouldnât spot you from a huge distance, that would be awfully OP. The wolf is probably my biggest doubt too since I like the concept, yet in-game I am not sure how it could be balanced if it were added. I guess they shouldnât be able to leave the deadzone, maybe by turning the deadzone node into a specific navigation node designed for the mutants. Anyways, thanks for the feedback!
The big guy, the âbullet eaterâ, is a bear which, while on the outside might look like a regular olâ bear, has five times the health of a regular one and also has low-cal-proof skin
that doesnât sound too bad-wait
l o w - c a l - p r o o f
nevermind, that can completely FUCK OFF.
the only shit thatâs low-cal-proof in 3.0 is vehicles, and thatâs for a good reason. high-cal is too rare to waste on fucking bears. i donât give a fuck if itâs a deadzone. thatâs too damned far.
Again, itâs only a rough draft. I couldnât really find anything too special for the bear so I gave him that, I guess. Much like the wolf it would probably be better if that got tweaked, but hey, itâs just a concept no one said they were going to get added anyways ÂŻ_(ă)_/ÂŻ
You could simply leave it at â5x the healthâ because that alone is enough
Plus, i donât think you can find a Minigun in a Military base⌠you were basically forced to go to a deadzone to get the high teir loot
But I do agree that most if what you find can easily be found in other areas so there should be special weapons that can only be found in Deadzones such as a Legendary Quad-Stack mag that can hold 200 bullets. Or âHouse Cruiserâ a mega backpack that has 1.5x the space of an Alicepack
The least teir loot you should find would be grenades and ghillie suits
Well, since you can carry couches, generators, windows and walls all in your backpack, might as well call the backpack the âHouse Cruiserâ cuz you can basically move houses with that bag
Itâs a joke relating to how you can currently carry a relatively small base & furnishing/equipment for it within an Alice Pack and a few other select clothing items.
You can get miniguns without having to go into any deadzones, since they drop from airdrops on every map aside from the Yukon (but miniguns donât spawn on that map anyways). Besides, the chance of getting a minigun is actually higher from an airdrop than from a deadzone raid.
True, but you did say âyou were basically forced to go to a deadzone to get high tier lootâ, which is not entirely true, as I have proven through my statement.
