I thought we can access some extras such as cutscenes in a story mode, a video or text explaining how turned works and how it came to stop here, an almanac talking about all kinds of zombies explaining how they behave and how they attack information of your character (costumizable) as a name and profession and also contain information from group members.

I would be fine with an encyclopedia describing the types of monsters the player could face, but it would have to be found (ie a previous survivor’s encyclopedia)

I think the zombies should not be explained before encountering them. This way players have to find it out themselves which gives an exciting experience in my opinion.
It would be fun if you could find CDs to place in tvs that would play little cutscenes on them. It would work as an effective compromise between cutscenes and open world.
