How I DID NOT finish Seversk map

Hi everyone,

Out of boredom, I’ve decided to share several screenshots of the map I’ve been working on for about a year, including several months spent in complete secrecy.

Here’s some backstory: Unfortunately, I have to say that I’ve been let down by the SDG staff and a few “members” (You know who I mean) of the Unturned community with unauthorized power. Because of this, likely, my map won’t be released, and even if it is, I probably won’t continue working on it, but someone else. I can’t hide my strong feelings of frustration towards you. I have always loved this game and have supported it through thick and thin. However, the recent actions by SDG feel like a betrayal.
Anyway, let’s move on.

So uh, let’s start with what map was about, lore and such.
Seversk is a closed island located in the Bering Strait near the Chukotka region of Russia. During the Cold War, the island held strategic importance, as it hosted air defense systems, radars, and a military airfield for intercepting potential threats. Its primary mission was to protect the airspace of the Far East of the Soviet Union from potential enemies.

There was no civilian police force on the island, instead, a military contingent fulfilled that role. In addition to military installations, Seversk had a few minor civilian establishments. The small town of Pugachevka featured panel houses, an apartment complex, a hospital, and a grocery store. There were also a couple of small locations, including the village of Krasnaya, which contained abandoned buildings and barns scattered throughout the island.

The lore of the map takes place in 1991-1993, the birth of the Russian state, so the map has the old flag of the Russian Federation and its coat of arms.

Lore is not related to the game lore, it is fictional.
According to it, the zombie virus spread throughout Europe and reached Russia. At the time, Russia was too weak to combat the outbreak effectively. In response to the epidemic’s onset, the United Nations acted quickly. However, they struggled to manage the influx of refugees and to contain the infection. As a result, the UN peacekeeping leadership in Russia decided to relocate refugees to remote islands and regions where the virus had not yet reached and was unlikely to adapt to the cold climate.

Unfortunately, the virus proved to be more resilient than expected, even in those conditions. Consequently, an UN Mi-26 helicopter was dispatched from the mainland and landed in the town of Pugachevka, bringing equipment to set up refugee camps. Unfortunately, one of the crew members of the peacekeepers carried infected blood. The situation in the town became chaotic.

Additionally, the peacekeeping contingent warned the local EMERCOM about their imminent arrival and suggested further cooperation.
From now on, the only activity involving the island is sending a dropship (UN IL-76) to deliver humanitarian airdrops.

(P.S - UN before canceling was standing for United Nutrete due to copyright, firstly it was UC - United Coalition, but I realized it sounds dumb so I changed to UN. and Unturned coalition sucks lol)

Yes, as you could notice, the important point of the map was REALISM. That’s why I didn’t want to make fictional names for guns, organizations, and more. I better evade copyright with other ways, since I had ideas how to.

Yeah, this lore is way cooler than Buak itself right?

The backstory is complete, so let’s dive into how I created the map.
The idea for the map came to me spontaneously, and my main inspirations were several sources. First, I drew from the game DayZ and its map, Namalsk, which provided the concept of an island.

Next, I took inspiration from Escape from Tarkov for its realism and attention to detail in the locations. I also incorporated mechanics from Project Zomboid into the map. Additionally, I was influenced by various movies that depict outbreaks of disease that have devastated humanity.

First screenshot during development. The terrain will be changed in the future. Nothing really interesting despite a town in far which is Krasnaya.

Added usable helicopter! (Mi-2 Rescue modification)

Decided that terrain was BAD so I fully started to remake it:

When terrain was somehow almost done, I started making huge locations, such as Pugachevka town. Here are some early screenshots:

One of my favorite buildings is EMERCOM inside. I love these posters! There are plenty of my friends’ characters in-game.

Aaaand so, it was time for making an airfield. 712th radar complex was already made, tho, no screenshots during development, I did not save.

Unturned lighting system is peak.

Only a deadzone remained to be created. I decided to develop a system similar to the reserve map in Tarkov. The airfield shown in the screenshots above is called Severnyi-1 Airfield, while the deadzone is an underground complex and it’s underground airfield, known as Severnyi-2.

Phew! Well, so, level design of the map was fully done, now it was time for progression and items, this is what was made so far:

Unfortunately, I started making items during the time with this drama, and that’s where I got stuck and stopped doing anything for Seversk.

To finish the story, I can say that there were a couple of unique types of vehicles on the map, because of its size, adding many types of vehicles I considered a dumb idea.

Minor but quite interesting details on the map:

  • Each sound on the map was fully custom, even custom this stuff that no one made before, such as custom inventory sounds, footsteps, casing drop sounds, and more. I’m honestly really proud of it.

  • The only unrealistic thing on the map was I think the case, when I added the Russian military UAV which was made in 2016-2017. Remember I said map setting is 1991-1993? Yeah…

  • Speaking by map setting, besides the fact that I liked the 90s setting, it was a good idea because I tried to make the map as apolitical as possible.

Liam from LiamDoesGames channel made a video about the map, check it for extra screenshots.

Chart and Satellite of the Seversk map

So um, that’s all I guess.

The actions of SDG towards us modders are unforgivable, and many others have suffered alongside me due to this situation. I know I have disappointed many, but I can no longer continue working on the map. My motivation has completely vanished. Fortunately, I passed the map on to a few friends who might be able to finish it.

I later discovered that the map’s landscape is not suitable for survival gameplay. However, it is ultimately their decision whether to make significant changes.

Everything could have been different many times over. I address those whom I should not mention for my good. You are to blame for all this drama.

What now? I don’t know, honestly. I will probably move and make my own game, or if I keep making something for this game, then for aesthetic pleasure or something. SDG already ruined Unturned. Curated status means nothing for now. This map is supposed to be my first curated project, but it seems it wasn’t meant to be.

Well, it was a cool experience I guess. Thanks Unturned. - Dizzpie

And yeah, you better not delete this post. This will make you look even worse in the eyes of people.

This looked so cool, it’s a shame this might not release but I do not blame you.
