Could you please make it possible for the chat to always be visible when a new message is received? I’ve had people trying to talk to me in world or group chat multiple times while I am in a chest or crafting and I have no idea because I can’t see their text. Currently, the only way to know if someone was talking to you is to check the chat after you are done sorting or crafting and that could be several minutes later. Not cool if someone needs help right away and you don’t see the message soon enough.
Interesting. I don’t think it is possible right now. All chat options that you can find are in Preferences.json.
Thanks. I took a look at them but yeah, no option to keep chat on top. I hope it can be added as an option in a future update. I believe it would improve communications and be beneficial for everyone.
I also think that this feature is actaully useful
I’d also like to add to my request that the health, food and water levels also stay on top along with chat while in inventory. I have also come close to dying several times while sorting or crafting because those stats are also not visible. I try to make sure now that I have good levels before I start sorting loot but it would be extremely beneficial if chat, health, food and water were all continually visible.
I have never died due to invisible stats. Also when you die the screen turns red like every time you get hit
Sorry, I meant dying by dehydrating or starving.
Doesn’t dehydrating or starving cause damage and the screen turns red? I just don’t remember exactly.
No, it doesn’t. Sometimes you can tell by the colors dimming on the left side of the screen where your character is and a little in the background but only if you do not have the “toughness” skill upgraded. If “toughness” is upgraded, especially at max, you can’t tell at all until you are dead. The screen doesn’t do anything else to notify you that you are dying by starvation or dehydration. I don’t ever upgrade “toughness” for that reason but I still occasionally die because I spend too much time sorting stuff in crates or crafting without making sure my food and water levels are good first. Maybe it would help if the colors of the items dimmed like the character’s clothes do. I really think it would be extremely beneficial if chat, health, food and water were always visible even when in inventory.
Hmmm. Well, if it doesn’t show then yes, it would be beneficial to add this option.
Thinking about this a couple of times since you posted it - something like e.g. Valheim makes nice use of the screen space in their inventory to still show your essential stats.
I’m not a programmer so I apologize if the following suggestion would be a coding nightmare but here is one idea that came to mind.
Would it be possible to make everything in the menus a little narrower and move them to the right enough so that messages and stats are always visible on the left? I’m not sure what the most common resolution is but there is plenty of extra room at the resolution I play at (1920x1080 (60Hz)). The status bars could be a bit narrower and the only issue I see is that the message bar would need to be narrower and show multiple lines instead of 1.
I’ve included a picture I pieced together so you can see what I am suggesting. This picture also includes a blank box between the suggested new message area and the status bars that could be used to display information on items (instead of the semi-transparent box that pops up on top of the items). I have used the information from right clicking on a Tukavtomat Rifle in Inventory as an example. I believe it would be easier to read if the text was in this box with a solid background. It might also be useful for other info. in other menus.
Thank you for a great game and for the recent updates, especially allowing messages to be longer and cars handle better! I’ll keep playing regardless of what you decide but I hope you agree this suggestion or something similar would improve the game and I hope it wouldn’t be too difficult to implement.
