I know this is kinda broad, but just do more community contests. They don’t need a big reward or even any reward at all. I know a ton of modders that would do contests just to get their name out there more or even just to brag about it.
I don’t want to just leave it at that with no ideas for potential contests so here’s some ideas (Some big, some small)
Game Page Screenshot Contest |
Essentially, the current steam game page screenshots are quite old. It’d be nice to revamp them with some help from the community. They could be either modded or vanilla. Though, for modded ones, there should be a marker or something if it wins to signify that it’s modded content (This would also be a way to show how good our modding community is). Could have a reward. Could just have a section of the game page that shouts out who made what. This could also happen every year or so to keep the steam page fresh and the community active
Trailer Contest |
Same thing as above. The only two trailers for the game in general are 7 Years Old. It’d be good to make a new trailer. Now, it doesn’t really matter if you want to advertise it or not, it’d be a good way to see what the film-makers of our community could do to showcase our beloved game
Revamped Maps |
This is the biggest one by far. It’d likely have to happen in steps too.
One of the biggest problems I’ve seen with Unturned is the fact that the official maps just aren’t good. Imo they also look their age. A simple way to combat that is to have contests to revamp the original maps. Now, this doesn’t mean I want the originals to go away. My plan would be to move the maps that have been revamped into a new map type called Legacy. This could replace the curated tab in the map selector (Following the logic of this post Official and Curated maps division).
Random Mod Contests |
This is just a random idea that I’m throwing in but basically, monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly competitions where you announce a random mod idea or theme and people try to make the best or most creative mod they can think of. They could be given points in areas like visuals, creativity, or usefulness. Idk what the reward for this could be tho.
There’s other contests that could be run but these are some examples I’ve come up with that would be cool to have even if there’s no reward
