Needing to craft keys for doors

if you place down a door, it shouldn’t be automatically locked. you should have to create a key lock to place on the door in order to lock it. you could then craft keys to give to your friends.

Makes raiding way too easy lol

how? what?

If you or your friends are carrying a key and get killed, then that means easy access for anyone who finds your base. Also, distributing keys to other people is just increasing the chance of them losing a key to a random and getting raided by them.
It could also start the black market trade of household keys

A key item system would be too difficult to make into the game. Not because of coding but it’s more about gameplay. How should the key system be implemented into the game without overcomplicating/overshadowing tasks that could normally be done using the locking system unturned 3.x has.

just don’t die with your key

Say the same to the Rust developers.

p.s. in Rust there is a key mechanic with wooden doors.

just don’t die 4head

Pretty sure that’s not how it works

Original and funny insult
hold on lemme laugh real quick

ha

did you laugh yet?

after you make a valid argument I will

this is based and outweighs the consequences, keys now.

also yeah it kinda does work like that, it is your responsibility too protect the key. but clearly there should be better ways this could be handled, like keys not dropping from death, but maybe cuffed people can get there keys stolen

Okay, say you get a key from a random guy in Moscow. What’s step two? scouring through every single base door and crate throughout all of russia, testing each and every lock with the one key you got from the naked that lured you behind a dumpster?

Unless you’re jumping around your base flailing the key it won’t be so easy to raid, and besides, keys aren’t meant to be the best form of security. You’re meant to upgrade to digital locks and stuff.

I kinda like the idea of these two put together, mainly because wooden storage items and structures like doors are basically the least viable thing to use in Unturned in terms of security. What I was thinking is similar to the Rust system that pubg mentioned, where wooden items have a key system and metal items either have some other kind of lock or is just locked to the player. Thoughts?

  • I like the wooden structure key system
  • I like the wooden structure key system but…
  • I do not like the wooden structure key system
  • I want the metal lock system to stay the same
  • I want the metal lock system to change

Yes there is such mechanic but if you placed the lock you don’t need to craft the key in order to lock it, only if you wanted your friend to be able to open your doors he’d need to have the key.

That makes a whole world of difference and was not mentioned anywhere in the post. Saying just

serves next to no purpose without completely explaining the feature. Key locks in rust serve as a stepping stone, imagine how unfun it would be to try to set up base as solo, get killed once and lose all the progress from your simple 1x1 base because someone looted key off of you.

Unless it would be 1:1 copy of the Rust’s mechanic or somehow improved or tweaked I don’t think it would be a good mechanic.

I think keys/locks for doors are already confirmed for the game
