Nelsons Ford Focus (or VW Golf)

As you all know, a car has been added in the most recent devlog. First off, I am going to start by saying what can be improved to this early first version:

-Like what @Kylie and @TheForgedWarrior have said, the car mirrors should be functional. As seen in Devlog #7, There are working mirrors in bathrooms. Technically, it shouldn’t be that hard as you just put the texture on the spots which should have mirrors (I’m not a programmer, so I don’t know if that is difficult). But since it is an early version of the car, it is probably already planned. – Also, to make the mirror more functional, it should be angled toward the driver a bit.

-For some reason, the front headlights seem to be flat like a texture, while on the rear lights have obvious volume. Personally, I would make the volume of the front headlights a bit more obvious to see. (by volume I mean that the headlight has thickness).

-On the side of the car, it is flat (besides the doors handles). There should be some sort of line going down next to the side of the door:

Kind of like this, but maybe indented?

-I think the edges of the tires should be rounded out a bit:

I’m thinking something like this ^^^

-Obvious things (which Nelson knows he needs to fix): tire squealing on grass, drifting and braking sounds on grass, and some of the animations bug out at times.

Ok, On too part two. My suggestion for cars!

-Car mods (I won’t go into detail as there are plenty of other good posts which describe cars mods) [i’ve only included this to bring up my next point].

-Wrenches. (yeah, I know its a bit strange) but there are a lot of different sized wrenches for vehicles. I was thinking of simplifying it down to 3 sizes (large, medium, and small). So, if you wanted to put on an armored door to on your car you would take a medium wrench and remove 2 medium bolts from the door hinge, then put on the armored door and screw back up the bolts.
— For a Small/medium vehicles (a VW Golf, a jeep) they would use medium bolts for big parts, and small bolts for small parts. For big vehicles (Tank, heli, big truck) they would use big bolts for big parts, and medium bolts for “smaller” parts. (things like a bicycle would only use small bolts)
— The same could go for socket wrenches and tires, but that might get too complex (even though it would be six things).

Car wishlist:

General farm truck: https://i.etsystatic.com/6767218/r/il/af88d0/1487138610/il_570xN.1487138610_t68v.jpg

and most importantly… NO SUPERCARS. I pretty sure we don’t need a Ferrari in this game xD

(btw, how do I get the pictures to show up on there own?)

Mirrors or really rendering two images at once are very very taxing on CPUs, which is why in devlog 7 the bathroom mirror is so blurred. A blurry mess of a rear view mirror isnt exactly the most useful, but I guess it would work decently as an option for high end computers. Also, I feel having wrenches be that specific would be mostly annoying, finding medium and large but not the small you are looking for. Other than that everything else is great. (PS press the upload button where the rest of the text “tools” are and put your link in as from web.)

My only wish for cars is for most cars to not be as new as the one in the devlog, and look to have some wear and tear and generally just look early two thousands, which most cars irl are.

(nelson pls gib jalopy)

Oof. Jalopy is gud for te gibbing

But, I would like there to be more than one wrench, (unless it is one of the adjustable ones). Actually, just having one adjustable wrench would be ok.

Also, looking at what Molton made, a blurry mirror doesn’t seem that useless:

Adding different sized wrenches just to make the game more complicated seems a bit annoying to me, but maybe pneumatic wrenches could be used to bolt things on faster.

The others have covered mirrors. I personally would keep it off for performance, as would anyone without a top tier gaming rig.

If you look at a real car, the headlights are more in-line with the front frame, rather than bulging out like many rear lights do. Personally I think it looks perfect as is.

Realism for the sake of realism is bad.

This isn’t gun calibers. Making a game mechanic tedious just for the sake of difficulty is not something I would agree with.

Rendering mirrors is really expensive but I feel like adding them to the game as a thing you can enable in the options would be fine - just like in Arma III.

PS. I am fairly sure the car in the devblog is Honda, don’t know which exactly but it looks like it :stuck_out_tongue:

I guess I dont understand how bad mirrors are on performance. In Garry’s mod, mirrors work fine, and dont lag the game. (I dont know how).

Also, there are like 75 different types of wrench sizes, and 3 wouldn’t be that bad. (The only problen would be finding them). Especially if there was only one adjustable wrench.

Everything depends on how you implement that system but it’s common to just use a camera and render it’s view to a texture. I don’t know how exactly does GMod do that but it’s different engine and a game with different PC requirements.

The Sims 4 has tons of mirrors and my FPS stays the same. Keeping in mind that the mirror is a perfect reflection. Not a blurred one. That is what revolves around in my mind when people say that mirrors are taxing.
I would imagine so, since it has to render 2 views. I’ve done a tiny bit of programming to have a general idea of how things go. But my mind keeps asking the same question: How does The Sims do it so smoothly while other games can’t?

Mirrors could be rendered basically the same way scopes work in 3.0, where’s it’s another camera.

it’s actually a Honda Civic FK

Can’t confirm it specifically as a Honda Civic FK, but can confirm as a Honda. :] Get outta here with that “Ford Focus (or VW Golf)” shenanigans!

Is a ford focus:

“Everything is still pretty normal for me,” Nelson tells me over coffee. He says the success of Unturned hasn’t really bled into his life in any dramatic way. He drives a Honda

Case solved  ?

Only Nelson knows !

…did you even bother looking up the Civic?!

It’s literally confirmed that it’s a Honda.

Nelson is known to drive a Honda IRL, plus there’s Molton to double confirm.

No supercars? Oh come on! /s

ahh, yeah ill just pull up in my gaa-dam Lambo and flex on the zombies :sunglasses:

HELL NA. NO WAY. no supercars.

Lord, if you actually think about it, it doesn’t make any sense to have a Ferrari in a hardcore survival game.

I think having some fun doesn’t hurt even in a survival game. I’m cool with supercars with distinct spawn points, like the F1 on Kent Raceway in U3.
