Questions about the "upcoming changes to curated map list"

Well i got multiple questions about this topic

“The maps will still be playable and the items purchasable unless the creators choose to remove them from the game and workshop.”

-what about the people that have mythicals or expensive items with that item.

“This decision was not taken lightly and is not based on a single instance or comment. It is a consistent pattern of behaviour that negatively impacts the community, the company, and the game.”

-Well i am in the community for like 8 years and i never seen a curated map having a negative impact in the games community. Yeah we had weird situations about some maps but i dont think they impacted the game,Tbh even myself got bored of the vannila maps (washington, russia etc) curated maps were a blast for me since elver, in conclusion whats the point of this i dont really get it.

This change has no impact on items in your Steam Inventory. No cosmetics items are being removed from the game. If a Stockpile listing is removed, then it will no longer be purchasable from the item store.

Is there a timeframe for when we should hear more about this?

I’m excited that the curated program is finally being redone. It’s been closed for what feels like years now and has made it impossible for anyone who isn’t a veteran to make a curated map

Sometime in the new year but we don’t have an exact date yet

"This decision was not taken lightly and is not based on a single instance or comment. It is a consistent pattern of behaviour that negatively impacts the community, the company, and the game.”

This is in reference to the developers of the curated maps. The maps themselves have not had a negative impact, rather the behavior and tendencies of the people who created them. The point of this decision is to remove toxicity from the game and community and to ensure the future of Unturned.

Sorry to hear that nelson isn’t doing so good mentally, I’m sorry if I am responsible for that directly or indirectly.

Will any of the changes/decisions made affect curated maps/content currently in development (Limestone, The Rio update/remake, etc)? If so, will said affected projects be released to the workshop instead of as a curated item or will they be cancelled? (my apologies if this isn’t a good time or if this is just straight up a terrible question.)

This kind of investigation should take more than a month.

to be honest it sounds kinda unfair to deprive people of their income and opportunity for full creative self-realization (basically years of work) because of a few words (i’m not only talking about dan, ren and dug), like “the maps themselves have not had a negative impact but we’ll still remove them from the game because their creators said some bad things somewhere (not even official game media)”

i wonder if the cancelled people themselves knew of their own cancellation before the new update and its preview branches were released or the curation update message was published…

Did everyone got investigated or only the „bad” side. This type of judgment should be done equally to all members of curated/modding stage. Looking at past details of life of only certain people doesn’t feel fair…

Many players and myself included are wondering about the exact reasons to why said developers were cancelled. We have been getting little to no information regarding this incident, and considering with how big of a deal it is, the community deserves to know what lead to the decision. The original post has been locked to prevent speculations, I don’t want to sound rude but that’s just not how it works. Obviously its going to shift onto all the other platforms like Discord, X, Youtube etc. and people are speculating because they have not been given anything that would allow them to form their own opinions based on facts.

It should be “innocent until proven guilty” and part of it is to publish what was being done wrong, and allowing these devs to defend themselves in a fair manner. Without giving any more details you are able to keep defaming them and hiding behind the “we don’t feel comfortable with sharing more information” statements. If the devs were in the wrong, then please prove it and all community members will be more understanding and see your point of view.

There has been a lot of criticism in the past regarding communication, some justified and some not as much (in my personal opinion) but this situation is not going to help connect with the community which for a big part is feeling left out already. I am aware and agree and members which are clearly toxic or are misbehaving should be held accountable and face consequences. There is a lot of black sheep in the community which do not contribute anything positive at all and find joy in ruining other members time, day or life – those should be erased from the community immediately.

Some of those curated devs have contributed to the games success and frankly kept the game alive for a big part of the community. I don’t know if I would still be playing the game if it wasn’t for new (and good) curated maps coming out. If it wasn’t such a big deal I wouldn’t care as much, but as a player, community member for 10 years and content creator of the game I am very disappointed and worried about the games future if we are heading this way.

Regarding your work specifically, I really admire your support for your husband and I can imagine how stressful it has to be for Nelson going through all the stuff recently. Whilst I do truly believe you had good intentions, I don’t think that you in your position can be unbiased enough - especially not when it comes to a serious matter like this. I would have liked to see a professional third party investigator, outside of the Unturned space, to look into all of this.

At the end of the day I want what is best for the game as a whole and would like to believe that I am allowed to speak up and voice my opinions here without facing consequences in any way.

It seems like there is a tendency to overlook the contributions of creators who are not fit for a Smartly Dressed Games company. Many of these “undesirable” or roughly speaking, “canceled” creators have played a significant role in elevating the game, becoming idols for many Unturned players and helping the game to evolve into something much more than just a “Cheap copy of DayZ + Minecraft on Unity.”

It’s disheartening to see them dismissed for reasons that feel trivial. Is it really fair to sever ties with someone simply because they expressed themselves differently or communicated in a way that didn’t align with SDG expectations? And even more so if those expressions were in places where the Unturned game is not officially presented.

It’s honestly tearing my soul apart.

I apologize if I came across as rude, my emotions got the better of me.

I don’t get how Elver is also hidden from curated map list. It was very important to this game, because it had some refreshing gameplay ideas that weren’t really implemented before. Elver did return many content creators to Unturned mostly because of it’s unique questline and content. it felt like it revived the game at some point.

Like i get it, arid, polaris and escalation are the most recent maps made by those guilty people, but why Elver? It’s so old and unrelated, it feels like it’s not a small punishment to stop ‘toxic behaviour’ but a more serious one…

i don’t think it’s good to talk about such things there

Game’s players online right now are about 1500 players, game would have die already long time ago if not the curated maps, most of unturned players are tired of game being absolutely the same and it’s vannilla base almost didn’t get updated, like do you even remember when we had new vannila gun? Or official map? A lot of players left the game, but the curated maps bring them back to play, atleast for some time, banning those map creators will be stabbing your own game as there wouldn’t be any reason for old players to join game back and for new players to even starting playing if the game wouldn’t offer anything new. Also toxicity is a part of each game you can’t eradicate it, especially in pvp games which give you competition between players, in comptetions there are always winners and losers and banning the competition holders won’t lead to eradicating toxicity but it will eradicate the competition itself, which is the game. Game will die very soon especially with banning map creators who were holding game from death, and I’m so disappointed in developer’s decisions and game’s future.
