Ranger Locations in 4.0: How should we handle them?

Currently in 3.0, ranger locations generally are out of the way spots, with a chance to get some fairly quality loot (besides a few offending weapons that are just trash). I’ve always seen them as an in between location type, right in the middle of civilian and military, even though there are some pretty powerful ranger weapons.

Sadly, the Russia update kinda messed everything up in that regard, adding some ranger weapons that were almost straight upgrades to military weapons while unfairly nerfing some other ranger weapons. The Zube was always a sort of side grade to the Maplestrike or other basic military assault rifles. It did more damage, but had generally worse stats, and it also wasn’t easy to find ammo for. Still, it wasn’t exactly terrible and acted like it was supposed to. Then it got reworked into this really weird rifle that just doesn’t feel good to use. It’s not the worst gun in the game but it sometimes feels like it for sure. Let’s not even bring up the sad case of the Snayperskya, or the Matamorez.

I’d also like to see ranger loot get split into two types. We have normal military and then “spec ops” military spawns, so I don’t see why we can’t do that for 4.0. Put things like RPGs in the spec ops spawns while worse guns like an AKM or a PM could go in the normal spawn.

So what are your thoughts?
How should we treat ranger weapons in 4.0? Should they be downgrades to most military weapons? On par? And how should we find them? Bunkers, small hideouts, caves, sometimes in normal houses, etc, are all locations I wouldn’t mind seeing ranger weapons spawn in 4.0.

I whould like to see them how they were before Russia.

Kind of exactly.

I would like there to be the classic ranger weapons, but also some that are on par with military weapons, having the same dps but with changes like slower firing and more damage and recoil

I think I get what you mean here; a basic beat up AK-47 of some sort probably shouldn’t be on par with a brand new M4A1, but a new AK-12 should be. This could play into having normal and then “spec ops” loot where older, generally more soviet era weapons spawn in normal spawns, and more modern russian weapons spawn in the “spec ops” spawn.

I don’t think there should be a set category of ranger weapons in 4.X. Which firearms and cartridges spawn in ranger locations should vary from map to map.

Well we need some sort of progression so idk. We already do have some different firearms spawning on different maps and that seems to work well enough.

I think Nelson should E X P A N D R A N G E R

Personally I don’t mind how it is now, compared to most people I’m new to this game so I didn’t have a lot of experience with Ranger guns before Russia but now that I have 1.5k hours, mostly using the Zubek that it feels great. It suits any playstyle and is frankly not that hard to control if you know how to use it. From what I’ve seen with the steam commmunity the issue with it is that nobody knows how to use it (my favorite being a pic of someone standing proud with a barrel, tac light, vert grip, and Kobra sight) but overall the Ranger guns are not bad. As for 4.0 I think we leave them how they are spawn wise

there should be more spawns for them, not just one or two places that are the farthest from everything and no one will think about going to them, just like you said bunkers and outposts and small hideouts will make ranger things more valuable, And in terms of hideouts the first thing I though about is a little camp in a cave opening or maybe radio towers with an outpost.

about splitting the type of weapons I dont really have much “experience” in terms of their spawns because I dont really play much single player so im always getting rekt by a 5-man squad that are all decked out, so I cant give my opinion on spawns because every good place has people camping it for kills, even though they have -32836627 reputation or something

Gameplay-wise I’d say that militia gear should truly act second tier alternatives to military gear. Most should be sidegrades, being less versatile than their military counterparts but will do well in specific areas.
