But, getting back to the topic, just no. Why do we need a anti air impacement?? Specifically in a survival game?

Because balance.
Try shooting down a fighter jet with a rocket launcher or Lancer

Thatā€™s not what a rocket launcher is for (and yes, I have shot down plenty of aircraft with the rocket launcher scrubs). Mainly the rocket launcher is to scare someone and raid bases. Use an lmg, sniper or minigun to take down a flying vehicle, itā€™s not hard.

Itā€™s a jet mateā€¦ goes way to fast. I think he should add AA lockon Manpads like igla, then add flares to all air vehicles to counter it. And rocket launchers in unturned will prob be used against vehicles and basesā€¦ he will probably reduce the drop to realistic levels.

No. NO. Thereā€™s not going to be a fucking guided missile in 4.0. Go back to Arma. It doesnā€™t fit the game. Aircraft should be countered with skill, not some kid with his lock-on launcher. It doesnā€™t matter that you could add flares to counter it. Itā€™s still unbalanced, no matter how rare these would be. Pester a mod maker in 4.0 to make this. Jets in 4.0 will definitely be balanced, but not with a missile.

Maybe there shouldnā€™t be jets at allā€¦

Yeah. How the fuck is a survivor supposed to fly a JET without prior training.

To be honest he should add jets in base hame. In 3.0 they are useless, to sensitive and slow. And if he did add jets, he should add atleast AAA vehicles and emplacements. And lock on isnt unbalancedā€¦ it works in most games.
A skilled pilot can easily dodge one by twisting the aircraft whilst deploying flares. And the Manpad user needs to fire at an apropriate timeā€¦ it should not be one hit kill eitherā€¦ just bring the heli down.

The idea that normal people could never figure out how to fly is not a strong argument. If the controls are complicated, itā€™s to allow the user to have more ability to manipulate the machine, not to make it harder to use. If you donā€™t understand the controls you figure out by experimentation. Some machines have such complicated controls that it would take some time to master them, or are so powerful that using them without understanding them is risky, but that doesnā€™t mean that players who want to spend the time and resources and take the necessary risks shouldnā€™t be able to use them. That said however, I donā€™t feel weapons that lock onto aircraft are necessary, since the only aircraft that canā€™t reliably be taken down with more conventional weapons are jets, which donā€™t have much practical purpose in the small space of an Unturned map.

Thereā€™s no purpose for lock on missiles. As Harvest said, they have little to no practicality in Unturned. If he adds jets, he doesnā€™t have to add a fucking AAA gun. Thereā€™s still no way to balance it. The reason thereā€™s actually lock on missiles in most games is because those games were made about warfare. Unturned is a survival game, not a mil-sim, or GTA Online.

This definitely sounds like something that would belong as a mod, not in the base game.

If you can fire missiles at aircraft, you can probably afford to shoot them at people or buildings as well. And given the whole emphasis on survival vs full-out PvP chaos, this is definitely a bit counterintuitive.

Jets are not for survival games eitherā€¦ if nelson wants some sort of attack plane, he should just at a p51 mustang and use vehicle autocannon/hmg for AA

Now you see, on a fighter jets IRL, thatā€™s not a good idea, you might fire the ordinance (extremely unliky cause itā€™s the red button on the yolk) or you might fire off the ejector seat. Look at all the buttonsā€¦

Sorry guys but Iā€™m the firestarter of this post

Anti-air.

The suggestion isnā€™t as terrible as some might think. By anti-air most simply think of anti-air missile launchers, when in fact. A weapon such as a .50 caliber (or higher) weapon can work as an anti-air weapon.

With the coming of 4.x I want to think that vehicles such as planes and helicopters will be much rarer. I think it would be interesting to have some also rare weapons to take those on. Since Nelson is aiming for greater realism, realisticallyā€¦ Damaging an important part of that air vehicle (helicopters rear rotor) can be quite easy as there are a lot of weapons which can do this (of course the bigger challenge is hitting that rear rotor). Now thatā€™s just real talk. Thisā€™ll be a game so a slight change can have a big difference.

This for example. All it is, is a Toyota pickup truck with a .50 cal machine gun in the back, capable of taking on air vehicles as well as anything surrounding it.

So you donā€™t have to automatically think of anti-air measures such as this.

You see though, .50 cal machine guns are also part of the controversy.

They already exist in 3.0 as HMGs and are already used for raiding and AAA, so it would be accurate to use HMGs as a comparison to AAA in 4.0. In 3.0 their use is only limited by the rarity of ammo, which considering horde beacons, is not all that rare.
