"Sleeping is the best meditation"

Now I have seen maybe one or two suggestions about this particular topic, but I would like to go into further detail; To make it so that everyone can agree that this would be a nice addition to the game per terms of realism. I have found it odd that we can run for miles without getting tried, and I find that to be unrealistic. I know that we have a “Stamina Bar”, but we don’t really stop moving to catch a “breath” so to speak. So I propose, with careful research, that we should have the option to be sleep deprived. Of course I will lay out all the possible benefits and drawbacks of this Sleeping mechanic I want enabled for the 4.x version of Unturned.

Sleeping Using Beds/Bedrolls

Using a Beds or a Bedrolls can have the same type of benefits, to make it less complex; They would give the player a Full Rested Bonus that’ll give them certain buffs like:

  • Faster Reload
  • More XP Gain
  • Better Accuracy

If they don’t use a bed in a certain amount of time they would get these debuffs:

  • Lack of Speed
  • Lost of stamina

The list can go on…

To make this a thing though I would think that Nelson could add a extra gauge to fill, like a sleep gauge kinda like the stamina bar…What do you guys think?

  • Should Sleeping Be The Next Big Thing?
  • Should We Stick With Spawn Points?

My Research ~ Sleeping

I like the idea of sleep in just 2 thinks
1° to no have DC with itens
2° to no lose food and water wen you sleep a AFK stage optionable

is my opnion about this

Okay, but how would sleeping itself work? You’ve only detailed the benefits of sleeping and the debuffs of not, but you haven’t actually described how you think the act itself should work.

I love the idea but what about multiplayer, maybe just chairs to regain the energy bar like the forest

Well, it kinda is a video game
Also… tired*

I understand your point and stance on this but not everything has to be realistic

Not to mention, being well rested giving you extra XP and faster reload? That is some super sleep right there. Most of what sleeping helps with is no buffs. But it certainly helps you from having “less stamina endurance” when you don’t sleep for too long. If you don’t sleep for too long, then your energy would go down faster when you do something that requires energy such as sprinting.

As for the act itself, then i would suggest your character laying down on the bed for 1~5 minutes

Or we could just go with my idea that resting is just accelerated regen and decreased food/water loss

My problem with adding sleep into a multiplayer game is that there’s only two real ways to handle it.

Either you make it some kind of instant thing that isn’t really sleep but just pretends to be, or you force the player to wait several minutes without doing anything.

The first way is bad because it defeats the point of the feature entirely, and the second is bad because it’s boring and it seems worthless. It’s not like having a realistic inventory system that forces the player to constantly think about what they should and shouldn’t be carrying, or realistic weapons that fundamentally effect combat in general. It’s just…boring.

When people say that sometimes you need to sacrifice realism for gameplay, they’re thinking of situations like this.

I’m not really for or against adding sleeping, but here’s how I think it would be best implemented:

  • If everyone on a server sleeps at once, (which would probably only happen in single player or role play,) it would skip to day, and provide some temporary buffs.
  • If a player rests, sits in a chair, lays in bed, or such, for a length of time, it should banish the negative effects of sleep deprivation.
  • The negative effects of sleep deprivation should not cause significant problems if the player has only missed one night of sleep.

Maybe food items that contain caffeine could keep you from suffering the negative effects of sleep deprivation, like sodas, energy bars, or maybe even coffee if Nelson decides to add it!

Until the point where you really need to sleep, you could suffer some health consequences like disease linked to the heart and kidney (which could be part of the radiation bar) and it won’t respond as well to vaccines or any kind of tablet.

I think having everyone sleep at the same time is pointless and not really fun. I would instead proposed a state where the user would establish a sleeping mode so to speak, as the user would have an animation of either sleeping on the ground or climbing in a bed. The user would then go into a state of AFK and would be stuck there unless you wake them. If you would like to add on that’ll be nice

Concerning those two problems why not use a method of automatically waking your character up, but would have a Groggy type feeling, if they didn’t get enough sleep?

The act is self explanatory…they would either sleep wherever the character is able

That doesn’t solve the problem of sitting at your keyboard doing nothing for 5-10 minutes. Not exactly an enjoyable experience.
