The subtle problem of Abuse - Official Servers

So if you make Official Servers nonexistant, won’t the abusive and harassing players just go find community servers to abuse and harass on? I feel it might mitigate the issue since less servers exist for harassment to occur on, but does not completely solve it.

Mercury has a point. Rocketmod Observatory was great and a similar system should absolutely exist in UII, but I don’t feel the majority of hackers would stop after one account gets banned, I mean why bother defending yourself when you could just abandon the whole thing and make a new alt account using less time and energy? Hackers would prioritize playing of community servers instead of paywalled official servers and therefore they would be more or less a hack-free safe haven. Obviously this isn’t a guaranteed some people will hack on official servers but why pay to access special servers on an alt account when you can hack on community servers for free?

Irrelevant and off-topic. The point is it’d be even worse to include in a video expose of Unturned 4.0 that the Official Server Staff were calling players furfaggots or weeb trash.

If you’re not a rich snob, 5$ is quite some money to waste just to impress your friends or piss people off for Youtube clicks.

Perhaps. Unturned can be a very competitive game, and I imagine 4.0 will be no different. Theres of course a lot on the line when you have gigantic bases, go on big loot runs, and have vaults full of goodies. People loose their temper and want revenge - anyway possible.

You know, Community Servers could also adopt the Observatory idea or have their server opt into the Observatory database, being able to send in people for ban. Afterall, thats how RMOD Observatory functioned anyway on community servers.

Why hack against the good guys when you can take down and topple abusive crappy rented P2W franchises? well I mean… now that you say it…

EDIT: Also consider from earlier that if hacks exist it will put pressure on Nelson to patch them, unlike 3.0 where he cant actually do anything because the game is just so badly coded.

There wont be staff on official servers, and just because your feelings get hurt when someone insults you doesnt mean there should.

Then change your profile picture to something else. Look at mine, it is just a random meme I had.

7th grade me swore to never watch an anime, ever. Boy has that changed in 5 years haha. The thing with harassment about things you can control is that everyone has their own opinions on what flies and what doesn’t. A lot of people can understand that racism and sexism and religious discrimination is wrong, with that last one still being able to opt-out of but still protected, but nobody is born as a MLP fan or a furry or weeb. Putting being made fun of for liking niche things in the same box of centuries of legitimate oppression many people have gone through is honestly pretty ignorant. Sure it still sucks but you can stop it at any time. I could go back to a random non-anime pfp at any time and stop the harassment I get, but I won’t because I’m not getting insulted on a daily basis for my hobbies and I have a thick skin.

We should all just ignore rain and let him rant by himself. Im quite sure that we already know what rain is trying to say.

I’d love too, but sometime its really fucking funny seeing people yell at each other for no good fucking reason.

Haha weeb.

But seriously, I just think that people need to grow up and learn to take “harassment”. It’s no one’s job to shelter you from the world. Sticks and Stones.

Some people are ■■■■■■■■■ what you need to do is to recognize that and not waste your time with them. That does not mean ignore anyone who disagrees with you, or challenges you. But instead it means people who are attacking you for A, a being Furry or B, Anything else about you that you can’t control (Ethnicity, Nationality, Disabilities, etc.)

Don’t worry I’ll convert you too. In time, all of Birchill. After that, everyone to ever play Unturned. And finally, the world.

Ambitious, I’ll give you that.

Coming back to the forum from a very long break and I read all three of the threads Rain Of Pain has made. From my understanding it seems like RainofPain has less real interest in the validity of his points and more interest in recruiting followers to the “No official servers” camp. I get that once you get set on an opinion its hard to let it go, but I think its okay just to let Official Servers exist.
Most likely most of the problems you’ve brought up will be very trivial/dealt with as they come up. This is kind of jumping the gun before the gun was made. However should some problem that you have brought up turn into a truly terrible situation where the whole game is burning down, and that if we had listened to you this would have all been avoided, remember that its not a one and done deal. Nelson can change the pass to be more of a general gold pass and take down his servers himself. This game is loved enough that one big mess-up isn’t going to doom it to the trash bin of games, especially since its free.

Do I think some of the things you’ve mentioned might happen? Yes. Do I think that it justifies removal of a very beneficial addition to the game? No.

You’ve crossed into the political area quite a few times. Its not hard to see that clearly your very upset about something in that regard, and the way you talk about politics makes me think your either a socialist, anarchist, or somewhere in there. (If I’m wrong feel free to let me know). I don’t think that official servers is a good comparison to any real life political atmosphere, and if you think that this system is doomed to fail because of your political beliefs, you should let it happen so that you can see if it does!

Finally, judging by the way people have been replying and behaving, I think its fair to say that anyone who agrees with you about removing the official servers has already voiced their support, so I think your best move would be to wait until after the servers exist and prove empirically why their poor. Currently, as with almost all threads, the proofs are theoretical, which holds substantially less value. I don’t think your wrong, but I don’t agree with your solution.

TBH furrys deal with an extreme amount of it, to the point where I can walk-through my school and hear a passing conversation about how disgusting they are.

Though as others have said, this has just gotten out of hand.

Although OP mentioned discrimination, it was meant as an example of how staff could potentially reflect poorly onto the game. The comments regarding how to handle discrimination personally are not relevant to the topic of “abuse on official servers.”

Please keep the conversation relevant to official servers specifically. Discussing discrimination generally is not relevant, nor is discussing people’s personal fandoms or interests.

I still dont think staff will be on official servers because it bring Nelson a lot of hassle to bring it on, for not that much benefits and possibility of major trouble. No game like unturned has staff members on official servers, and cheaters can simply be reported on a website, or banned by anticheat. Staff members wouldnt really help when banning cheaters because their bans could easily be appealed, unlike anticheats.

Why leave staff out of official servers when plenty of regular ones will have them? Every person and computer in the world is bound to make a mistake at some point but a competent staff member can be very useful for moderating the servers. People can quickly adapt to new methods of cheating if they catch someone using them and the staff don’t necessarily have to be paid. Trusted community members may step up to help moderate official servers here and there in addition to regular anti-cheat to make sure that nothing going wrong hasn’t already been dealt with. If a competent staff member has evidence to prove their reasoning for why they banned someone then that person should have no chance to appeal whatsoever unless they can prove it was actually false. Anti-cheat isn’t perfect and looking at reports of cheaters on a website would require staff members anyway so why not give them the ability to check on servers when they have spare time? Going with my comparison from before, why have cops if they can make mistakes?

I already said, too big of a hassle for not enough benefits. Staff cant have evidence for every person they ban, bans made by staff members could easily be appealed. Anti cheat cant make mistakes and ban innocent people, because if it could anticheat wouldnt be a thing. There is no reason to have staff members other than to “prevent cheaters” and get Nelson into potientially big trouble.

Regular servers are way different from official ones. Regular ones are made by the community, they can have staff because they can, and it sometimes works on regular servers, but when the developer and owner of the game has a server its different and he cant just do whatever he wants and fuck around on his own server.

And dont even mention policemen in an arguement about videogame staff members…
