Why do I crash?
If you do not meet the game’s recommended system requirements, support is not guaranteed for your system.
- Windows 10 is the recommended operating system.
- It is highly recommended to be using a 64-bit OS, with a processor that supports 64-bit.
- If you do not have at least 8 GB of RAM, it will be difficult to play on certain maps.
- If you are using a macOS device, it should be macOS High Sierra.
- Make sure your device drivers are updated.
- Make sure you are running the latest version of your operating system.
Verifying the integrity of game files can fix numerous issues. Additionally, having too many mods can also impact performance.

Steam Overlay doesn’t work!
- Make sure your firewalls and/or antivirus software is not conflicting with Steam Overlay.
- Make sure you are not using other overlays that would conflict with Steam Overlay, including various game boosters and Fraps.
- Make sure that you did not accidentally disable Steam Overlay, globally or per-game.
- Try running Steam as an administrator, and/or in compatibility mode.
- Try running the game’s executable as an administrator.
- Try setting GameOverlayUI.exe to run as an administrator.
- Make sure your device drivers are updated.
If the issue persists, you can try ending the GameOverlayUI process from Task Manager after launching the game.
Help! I have BattlEye issues!
I didn’t install BattlEye when it asked.
BattlEye is the game’s anti-cheat software. It is required to have BattlEye installed if you wish to play on BattlEye-secured servers.
If you did not install BattlEye via the pop-up shown when first launching the game, you can still install it by running its installation batch file. Navigate to…
...\Steam\steamapps\common\Unturned\BattlEye
…and proceed to run the…
Install_BattlEye.bat
…batch file.
“Windows Kernel modification detected.”
If the following message appears when you launch the game…
##:##:##: Starting BattlEye Service... ##:##:##: Launching game... ##:##:##: Windows Kernel modification detected. Please repair or reinstall your system. ##:##:##: Failed to launch game.
…then you are using a pirated copy of Windows 7.
I have server issues!
Why aren’t servers showing up?
If you cannot find any servers, then you need to remove your filters. Especially make sure that the “server name” filter is empty, including of whitespace characters (such as spaces). Afterwards, be sure to click the “Internet” button again.
It says the server isn’t on the same version!
Wait for the server to update.
Why does matchmaking fail to find servers?
Some filters that you have set in the server browser/list will carry over into matchmaking.
“The server is missing a custom module your files are using.”
Navigate to…
...\Steam\steamapps\common\Unturned\Modules
…and delete everything in the Modules folder.
“The steam anti-cheat servers have stopped working.”
Make sure your antivirus software is not conflicting with the game. Temporarily disable it outright, or add the game as an exception.
