I think in II, items like crates/boxes (as well as individual items) shouldn’t be “placed” on a vehicle, and would slide around, and items thrown down wouldn’t glitch out of the back of the car, but rather stay inside it, free to move around if the car is going over hills, boulders, etc.
To combat this, as well as add other gameplay possibilities, there should be specialised vehicle customisation options, so that you could tailor your vehicle for whatever purpose you want it for.
These could be made from components found in construction and mechanic locations.
Some of these would be automatically on regular vehicles when they spawn, however.
These could be removed and put on at will, and adding them would greatly increase a vehicle’s weigght and maneuverability.
- Truck Canopies/Caps
These would put an extra “room” on the back of a pickup truck or similar vehicle. People could sit in here, as well as cargo being put in here, and it wouldn’t be able to fall out if you were going fast or on bumpy/rocky/hilly off-road surfaces.
- Racks
These could be installed on every form of road vehicle, looking different depending on which car you put them on. On pickup trucks/flatbed vehicles, there would be a few different types of racks you could put on them, some covering the entire tray like this
or only covering the roof of the cab. On regular cars, there would only be a single form of rack, only covering the roof section.
- Soft Canopies
These would only be equipable on large trucks (civilian trucks, and military trucks) and the easiest to make, requiring only cloth or canvas material, or tarpaulins.
- Hard Canopies
These would be automatically on delivery trucks, boxtrucks etc, but could be taken off and flatbeds could be equipped instead.
- KUNG canopies/compartments
These would only spawn on military trucks, and be exclusive to military trucks and certain heavy vehicles. These, much like a regular hard canopy would seat extra people (maybe more) but have windows on them and more things could be put on. These would weigh down trucks a lot, even more so with a lot of people in them.
- Containment Tanks
These would function like regular tanks, and be able to contain chemicals, water, fuel, and grains. Weight would increase with the amount of liquid or grain inside.
- Truck sides
These would be relatively easy to make, with only a few wooden planks. These would function similarly to regular pickup truck canopies, except could be shot off easily and wouldn’t provide any protection to anyone or anything in the tray.
