Unturned automatically limits itself to 30 FPS when watching YT videos with Picture-In-Picture

If playing Unturned in Borderless mode and having a Youtube video play with Picture-In-Picture from the web browser, Unturned limits itself to 30 FPS even when V-Sync and Framerate Limits are disabled.
To clarify, I’m actively playing Unturned while having a Youtube video layered over the game window using the web browser’s Picture-in-Picture feature

Update: Tried Picture-in-Picture video with Opera GX and the frames don’t drop as drastically as before; possibly this only happens with Microsoft Edge browser

There is probably a framerate limit for when you are tabbed out. I’m not sure if there is a setting for that or not. I think Nelson implemented something like this more recently.

There is. Just go to the display menu and you can disable it or set it to a different number

I’ve marked @CPL’s post as the solution. Please feel free to unmark if you’re still having any issues.

Pic 2: Using Picture-in-Picture with Microsoft Edge limits frames to 30
Pic 3: Using Picture-in-Picture with Opera GX doesn’t apply a limit

CPL’s suggestion is to disable the Limit Framerate While Alt-Tabbing setting. This is different from V-Sync and Limit Framerate.

Which UI mode are you using? Are you using IMGUI?

The default one. Also my monitor displays up to 165 Hz

Ah, I see the issue – my mistake. In order to set a higher cap when alt-tabbing, you need to check the “Limit Framerate” option. For example:

Thanks Jdance, CPL, and Molt for helping! I wanted to double-check this, and can confirm that the limit framerate while alt-tabbing setting only applies if limit framerate is enabled. i.e., I don’t think that’s the underlying cause here.

Lark_Surstrom, since you mention it happens in Microsoft Edge but not Opera GX, I wonder if it’s an optional Chromium feature that they handle differently. Since Opera GX is marketed more as a browser for gamers perhaps they don’t limit FPS, whereas perhaps Microsoft is concerned with increased power or GPU usage from layering the PIP view on top.
