Unturned (Steam) Marketplace Consolidation Concept

Unturned’s item names are pretty verbose, I was curious to see if I could remedy it.

Currently, having a mythical variant of a weapon skin with an added Kill Counter & Ragdoll Modifier extends the name to a short sentence.

So, I wondered, could these properties be relegated to their own in the metadata of an item listing via a small coloured list or a box similar to CS2’s sticker crafts?

Coloured List

Changes:

  • Name reduced to only mythical particle, skin name and weapon it’s for.
  • Rarity type in name is removed (already implied with colour).
  • Killcounter + Ragdoll modifier moved to blue coloured ‘properties’ list.

CS2-Esq Box

Changes:

  • Name reduced to only mythical particle, skin name and weapon it’s for.
  • Rarity type in name is removed (already implied with colour).
  • Killcounter + Ragdoll modifier + Mythical type moved to CS2-esque ‘sticker’ box.

The main idea of this is that each item variation of skin, mythical, Killcounter and Ragdoll modifier create a new type of listing on the market, which heaaavily crowds it.

Considering the fact they’re craftable, killcounters are (subjectively) not as important as they are to the market of Unturned as they are to the CS2/TF2 markets, and don’t deserve to create whole new listings of items.

With those concepts done, I do have to wonder, is this something that’s just not possible because Valve only allow it for their own titles like the ‘inspect in game’ button? Is it too late now to change?

Nelson knows better than I do, but I know there’s a couple things going on here.

You’re correct that there are features used by Valve games that aren’t available through the Inventory Service. Such as: the “Inspect” and “Wiki” buttons you may see on TF2’s market listings.

Mythical items predate per-item tags. IIRC, doing something like changing everybody’s mythic skins to use per-item tags isn’t possible without leaving some redundant itemdefs behind.

CS2’s stickers use a feature called “accessories” – that’s what the box/table is from. I think that’s part of the reason why the item isn’t prefixed/suffixed with those sticker names, and why it doesn’t create an entirely new listing.
