Weapon safety suggestion

This is a small “quality of life” suggestion for weapons regarding switching fire modes. Safety should be either keybinded by default or keybindable as separate than other fire modes, because it’s kinda annoying to cycle through fire modes mid combat with one extra firemode that you have to cycle through.

what is the problem click 2 times to change fire mode to mode with you prefer?

Seconds can matter in battles. Switching to a fire mod with absolutely no use in a battle could cost you your life if they take the opportunity.

Instead of tapping the buttons to cycle fire mode, maybe holding down the button for swapping between safety and not?

I mean, the fire selector itself is a circle, why not?

Also weapons looted from natural spawns should be set to safety as default, since that is how guns are stored in life, you don’t go walking to a gun store where the gun in display is set to full auto.

There should be able to find guns that have other fire modes selected, since these could have belonged to someone who tried to survive and used these against the infected before dying, running out of ammo and dropping the gun or becoming an infected itself… There are many possibilites in that matter, so the fire mode on which you find a weapon could be random or set depending on where you find it.

But, when the apocalypse happens and your shooting zombies and get overwhelmed, then the gun by your corpse would be on automatic. mebigthinks

I think the first radial menu was used for that, actually. And for PC, it’s likely activated just by holding the normal fire mode toggle button down.

So the real question is whether or not it should ever cycle to Safety normally, or if Safety should only be toggleable from the radial menu?


Personally, I’m fine with how it is currently because I don’t switch firing modes in the middle of battle and if I did I can just hit the button twice when I’m not about to die, but if there’s a QoL change to be made here that could be the way to go, maybe.
