What is the max size when making a map

I know maps go from small to insane size but do they have a maximum and minimum size or are they all just one fixed size

You can make the map your map whatever cubic shape you like using the tile system, as long as it fits in the bounds of an insane sized map. You can then just the bounds of the chart/gps via the cartography volume. Any objects/trees placed outside the bounds of a centred insane sized map get deleted/snapped into bounds.

@kvc.6’s answer is correct. The size you choose when creating a map is more or less a preset. Note that this is also used for certain difficulty settings, and is the size listed when viewing the map from the main menu.

I semi understand, so each map has a preset size. Is there anyway to see what the actual size is or could you make it bigger

You can make them really enormous, but there’s a limit to where you can place objects.
In larger enough maps the cartography volumes don’t work, either.

Alright that makes sense, thank you for the answers. I’ll surely be back here when I inevitably break something
