Wind affecting how fast you run

Wind speeds above 20 or 30 should effect how fast you run. But if it’s really high winds it should push you around and throw random objects at you, and effect your vision(squint) if you are looking directly at the current.

putin 3d what the fuck

Weaker winds should also have the potential to throw or push around lighter objects like papers or maybe even mostly empty trash cans if they end up affecting movement.

how about we just have higher winds for dust storms and such, and they slow you down, and lighter winds which just blow around stray newspapers.

Imagine a fucking trash can flying towards you face when you are running away from people shooting you. Lol. Or dolphin diving and getting hit by one.

I think we should just use the Beaufort Scale as a guide instead of coming up with an entire wind speed system.

Or just don’t have wind outside of bullet drop and trees/flags? 99% of games don’t have wind simulation to that level, I literally only know of dwarf fortress being this indepth

No… it should be a thing that can affect anything. Also aircraft.

It can’t work unless wind simulation is made both forced on and incredibly resource efficient. The game would have to check first; the direction of the wind and second; whether something is in the way. Imagine being behind something but the wind just decides that you can’t walk as fast today. It should only be cosmetic imo.

imagine a tree, a bus and a house flying towards you.

thats why I said just higher wind speeds would slow you down, no matter what direction the wind is blowing, and at lower wind speeds, you would just see leaves and newspapers being blown around a bit.

Although a neat idea, we have to remember that Nelson is by himself. So we can only stick to the simple mechanics that don’t need a AAA game dev team to do.

The only effects of wind we should have are what AJ said…

Not only that, a nice adjustment would be wind direction so that wind isn’t always against your direction. Either that, or just say “Fuck it” and have wind always go in the opposite direction of your sprint

I think the wind simulation system should be really simple. Just a couple of types of winds.

0 - None
1 - A light breeze (as people said a news paper flies by or some leaves)
2 - A mildly strong wind (maybe affects bullets in a predictable manner)
3 - A storm (a duststorm blizzard whatever)
4 - A hurricane (optional maybe a tornado broken trees and bases)
