Hey, can NEW crossbow (for hunt) can 1 shot in head player? Or 2 shoot in body?
What’s about bows?
I wanna make homemade crossbows and bows with worse damage than original.
I think that must be a best weapon, because:
Great damage
Silent, stealth
Can make arrows, and back it
Large round of modify, explosive arrows, etc.
What do you think?
Not to be rude but a bow that could one shot a player in the head would be a terrible idea. The bow already has several advantages over guns; reusable ammunition, silence, and it is rather common (in Unturned 3). If we buff the damage that high, there wouldn’t be a point to using guns.
If you remember the bow in 3 for the longest time was a 1 shot to the head. I don’t feel it was that overpowered though, someone with any helmet and an assault rifle had the advantage. In 4 the bow could have crazy bullet drop and loisy range (for balance) and maybe only the crossbow could 1 shot. (Of course the spawns would be really low)
1 shot kill =/= 2 shot kill
Do you not understand how different it is to be killed in one shot seemingly out of nowhere, and being killed by two shots with a reloading and a redrawing animation between? Not saying that 1 shot kills are or aren’t a bad thing, but that comparison doesn’t prove anything.
Sorry, I accidentally typed 2 instead of 1. But I think it could be balanced with a very clear and hearable sound for the crossbow and the arrow (while it’s in the air), rare drop rates for the crossbow and for arrows, (can’t shoot craftable bolts from the manufactued crossbow). Yes I agree 1 shot head shots are very annoying, as I was kind of mad about the post with 1 shot head shot bullets, but for me it makes sense to have it for a crossbow. If it’s not a 1 shot to the head, it should at least do 85 damage. (Also, look at fortnites bow. It’s kind of trash. If unturned had similar travel time and drop, then I’d say it would be pretty balanced.)
2 shot headshot for the crossbow with players with no helmets. If player has helmet 4 shots. 3 shot body shot if nelson doesn’t use a new damage system like chest and stomach. 4 shot body shot if player has a helmet. Edit: bit I think there should be damage drop off.
If played have helmet 2 shot in head, if player have vest, 2-3 (random) shot in body.
Please, don’t forget, that’s it no fast gun, reload is 4 secs, and maximum STABLE range is 50 meters. Don’t forget about ballistic.
That’s good idea, but helmet could cover head, and up safety to 2-3 bullets in head, and 3 hits in body if you have armor
About crossbow and bow
Bow have less damage than crossbow
But have faster reload
Crossbow have higher damage than crossbow, but have longer reload.
Please, don’t forget about reload, hit to player from crossbow is so hard, and you have 4 sec reload.
1-2 in head without helmet
With helmet up to 3
Poor ballistics are only a good balancing feature, if the engagement distances allow for them to have a significant impact.
Like I said, look at fortnites crossbow.
The problem with 3.x crossbow was that there wasn’t any damage drop-off over a certain distance which gave meant there was only 1 way to pretty much make it less powerful.
With 4.x on the other hand, it’ll be much easier to do the correct balancing, since damage drop off over distance is going to be a thing (on the trello) it’ll be possible to make it so that it’s a 1 shot headshot kill at “x” distance and "depending on armor (helmet or not). The other thing is, if you’re engaging in a fight with a player in CQC (close quarters combat), you’ll have to make sure to hit that headshot to get the kill. Having 1 shot makes that really difficult, it’s either hit the shot or die when using a crossbow.
I think a lot more thought can be put into bows becausew of their true lethality. Doing so, however, shows their weakness in this scenario for anything other than killing other animals and humans. While one-shot to the head is certainly possibly with today’s bows its important to understand how a bow kills and how a gun kills.
Guns fire tiny projectiles at such high velocity that their kinetic energy is tremendously high on impact. That enery dissipates throught he object being hit causing blunt force trauma (like a lot) to radiate out from where the bullet hits. This trauma ruptures organs and breaks bones. While they can kill instantly if you hit in the right spot, their lethality is far more dependant on accuracy than with a modern bow or crossbow.
Bows and crossbows today fire an arrow or bolt many times greater in weight than most bullets at around 300 fps. This weight gives the arrow or bolt enough inertia to go right through most animals…including a man. The tip of the bow or bolt, however, is the true means of killing and, as you will see, is extremely lethal…to a living man or animal.
The bladed tips of modern bows and crossbows do not cause trauma at all, but radiate out from the shaft from 1" to 3" inches…more for arrows designed to decaptiate long necked water fowl…but those are a special case. Most bladed arros cause internal bleedding in a cylinder that is the diameter of their bladed tips from entry to exit. This bleeding cannot be stopped and leads, 100% of the time, to death, provided you get that arrows through the torso (the biggest target on any critter).
Here’s the problems though:
- Zombies don’t bleed out…so a head shot should be necessary really. For that a 35 lb bow with field tips should do the trick. Your arrows would break under such misuse though. Few would last past 1 or 2 shots, assuming you can recover them.
- Humans will have time (a few minutes) to fight back before blood loss ends them
- This lethality relies 100% on a precision-ground, razor tipped arrow heads. Such arrow heads cannot be made without sophisticated machinery.
- Poundage on a bow is not so important. A 35lb draw (my daughters at 12 could easily draw that weight, it’s what they started with) is more than enough to take down a moose or bear, let a lone a man.
Even if you could, by hand, make a 100 pound draw bow (not that you could fire it) it’s not necessary or important. Indeed, a skilled hunter chooses the lowest poundage he can get away with so that he can fire for longer without fatigue setting in. The real quesiton is can you make a harderend, paper thin, razor tipped arrow head by hand? After one use such a tip is no longer lethal and getting them sharp again using hand tools is rarely successful (it’s only by chance and the chance is slim).
I have something to solve this balancing issue.
Longbow (normal wooden bow)
Keeps current stats in 3.0, 2-shot kill to unarmored head. Craftable in wood variants with varying(?) stats. Pretty much the same as from 3.0, with sloppy range and hard drop. Swift reload. Completely silent. Damage dropoff is severe at long range.
Compound Bow
Keeps stats in 3.0, but buffed accuracy and drop. Increased armor piercing but still 2-shot. Reload is slower. Repair is quite expensive due to moving parts and pulleys, lower durability. Damage dropoff is negligible until maximum optimal range, then dropoff is significant. Silent, but makes a quiet sound when drawing back. Can be turned into compact form for convenient carrying, but will be rendered unusable until unfolded.
Crossbow
1-shot to head, best range, but as a balance, has a long reload like a real crossbow (3-4 seconds). Also is 2-shot to body. Also makes a quiet but very audible sound when firing. Damage dropoff is very low but consistently steady as opposed to a sudden drop in damage at a certain range point.
Recurve Bow
Has worse range, drop, and damage than Compound Bow, but reloads much faster. Still an upgrade to Longbows. Completely silent. Has the best damage dropoff since the damage is already relatively low.
The key difference here is that while the Crossbow is still the best with skill, its realistic long reload makes it a risky miss.
Include different stats for damage drop off at different ranges and you got yourself some damn fine balance for the bow/crossbow weapon type
Yep, Rust does a pretty fine job of balancing the crossbow despite it having more power and a 1-shot headshot.
I’ll factor in damage dropoff.
inb4 repeating crossbow
Those would be laughably weak though, given their primitive and cumbersome design.
Although I could see it potentially being some sort of craftable reward blocked from entry level players by something like a quest or blueprint.
Now, I like everything you said except for the compound and recurve bows. A recurve it actually pretty powerful (I’m kind of a bow guy) and compunds are super powerful, extremely durable, and easier to use. On a compound, the pullys and such make it so that you could draw 80 lbs, but have it feel like a 30. But for balance, and truthfulness the order of bows should be craftable short bow, longbow, recurve, compound, and then crossbow.
Admittedly I just threw out some concept figures, but yeah, they’re a bit hard to balance.
You’re the bow guy, I’m sure you could easily fix it.
I just tried to make it so that every bow would have a good advantage as well as a weakness.
Perhaps switching the descriptions of the Compound and the Recurve for starters.
