đź‘Ź Anime Review

Yes, I fooled you, I am not based, for I am cringe.

Especially recently I’ve been watching a lot of anime recently and I wanted to put my thoughts down and review them because I think it’s fun, I’ll start off with a few shows, and I’ll add more reviews later
Of course, spoilers are ahead. You’ve been warned. I am not liable for any damage that may occure if you read this, if you understand sign here _______

Hunter x Hunter (2011)
image
This one is about a boy with an estranged father who is a “Pro Hunter” His father picked being a hunter over raising his child (Gon) and now Gon wants to become a hunter himself to understand why his father picked that profession over raising him. Over the course of the story he meets new friends, makes new enemies and all while trying too find his dad.

What I like about most in this show is how the relationships between protagonists and antagonists are very unique, take Hisoka for example, a self serving psychopath who is into fighting people and killing them, he wants to see those people with potential to grow up in being a worthy opponent. This trait makes his relationship with Gon and his friends very complex because it’s not simply “mm my enemy must die”. Simply put, it allows Gon not to feel super ill-willed towards him, because he knows there’s no reason too worry at the moment, allowing them to treat each other like regular people and not an actual enemy when they bump into each other.
The same goes for the Phantom troupe (An organization who kills and steals for fun) Stopped wanting to kill Gon and his friend Killua because they weren’t able to kill there real enemy, Kurapika. What’s interesting is that they even spared them twice while both times Gon/Kil where trying to capture them because of a bounty, some of the troupe members even like them and think they got guts.
Something I don’t like the show, after the yorknew auction arc, the author started to take more drastic turns with the story, in the following two arcs, Gon and Killua enter a game, while after that they’re trying to fight off a species of ultra-evolving ants that the property of food the ants eat will be applied too the offspring (ant eat bird, offspring get wings)
Tl;Dr relationship between protags and antags are complex enough for them not too KOS, as soon as they see each other it’s hard to put in words, but it’s pretty appealing too me.

The Promised Neverland

oh boy do i love eating kids for breakfast
The story is set in 2045, at an orphanage Emma lives with her 37 other orphans, life is great, they get good food, clean clothes get to go outside and play, have good education and are all taken care of under there loving mom. Emma, Ray and Norman specifically are the smartest and ace all of these tests. One night, one of the orphans Conny was “adopted” by a family, Emma and Norman notices she left he plushie so they go to return it towards her.
When they reach the gate where orphans are sent off, they realize something pretty fucked up - Conny has been killed and they find out that instead of being sent away to a family, they’re being sent to be butchered to become demon food.
After this, they tell Ray, and they start putting together plans to escape.
Moral ambiguity occurs to them, while Emma wants to rescue everyone, Ray suggest they just escape as the 3 of them, and maybe take 2 others (Specifically Don and Gilda, second in intelligence and age only too the three aforementioned).
What shines in this show is the intentions, psychology and planning that goes on around the characters. They’re mother finds out pretty quickly someone undiscovered the truth to the orphanage, and she starts too takes steps. Their goal is too get in there mother’s head and figure out a way too escape, the planning is incredible. You should watch it.

TL;DR orphans find out there orphanage is live stock for demons, they then start a escape plan to stop them from being eaten, you should watch it

Girls Und Panzer

I actually was going to watch this, 30 seconds into the first episode, I saw CGI tanks, I couldn’t continue, I’m sorry @Armaros

2rgames the anime

Ahh yes my favorite battle shounen and the adventures of Roze and Rozzy,
This is a great zombie survival where two twins not only survive, but thrive and get into loads of antics, you should watch it

Kimi no na wa (Your name)

This one is a movie. I fucking love this movie, it’s a romance story about two people who start body swapping and of course, chaos ensues. They end up falling in love but there’s another thing standing in the way. I’m going to leave this intentionally vague because although I had a warning, I genuinely really like this movie and want other people to have the chance to enjoy it. It’s also the top grossing film in japan as of Right now, which is also cool.
Watch it or I’ll start gatekeeping on what it means to be a regular.

I’ll add more soon, thank you for reading.
I haven’t been so diacritical since i’ve gotten into politics

I’ve got my own personal anime review document that I’ve shared here before. @Syero please do check out Patlabor, mainly the first and second movies. They’re standalone enough to watch without seeing the OVAs beforehand, and despite being a giant robot series, the movies are moreso detective and drama flicks. Ignore the third movie it’s bad.

The way you’re writing these reviews make me want too either really watch these (Specifically Akira, Bepop, and now understanding the premise, GUP)
Or Really not watch these shows (NGE, Serial Experiment Lain)
Although I think I should listen to the NGE opening sometime

For Patlabor, what’s different from the movie to the anime? Are the movies better?
Also

NGE is responsible for monster of the week tropes

Wouldn’t that be Part 3 of Jojo? It came before Evangelion and I believe it to be more popular.

Overall this list has some really interesting shows, but all the anime seem a bit old, which I can tolerate, (Considering i’ve seen DBZ, Pokemon and now HXH + JOJO) However I’m not super into older animes, and rather would focus on more new shows. I’ll probably watch bepop, gup, and akira in the future since now they sound interesting No promises since that’s three whole new shows and i’m already watching two shows, (HXH and Little Witch Academia) and Love is War season two is coming out soon.

Ironically though anime is miles ahead in terms of animation quality compared to western animation.

You mean anime takes on a more complicated and realistic art style?
Sure, some shows like LWA or My hero academia season 4 are pretty low quality, especially One punch man season 2. But that’s only a handful. Which do you pick?
More smooth animation or animation that strains art fundamentals too the max?

The movie your name is especially good in quality and animation, you should give it a watch if you think anime is animated lazily
Actually, here, i’ll put a clip comparing high quality animation and low quality animation

This is godly.

This season of the MHA had pretty low budget (evidently from the movie they where working on) So some quality was sacrificed, however the first clip can be picked apart pretty well, while the second clip still looks really appealing, and both of these clips are taken within a few episodes.

Movies and anime are two distinct timelines, I just started with the Movie timeline since it’s significantly shorter and I already saw clips of the 2nd movie and wanted that specifically. First movie is about an engineer who snuck malicious code into an updated robot operating system (no spoilers this is all explained in the first few mins) and figuring out how to stop it. Second movie is a breakaway JSDF group ordering what is essentially a coup and the police fighting back. Not a lot of robot action and deals with a lot of political tension at the time.

I actually stumbled upon that document earlier today. Can’t remember how it ended up being shared to me in the first place though.

Demon Slayer.

You wanna talk about quality? Just look at Demon Slayer. Not even an episode, hell, just watch the opening. The entire anime is animated like that.

Oh my god don’t even get me started on demon slayer.
it’s funny because the art in the manga is bad but ufotable literally creams and makes the best out of it

I watched The Promised Neverland after my Sis’ showed me it. Loved it.

Edit: Still waiting for season 2. Watched it in like September- you’re late on that anime.
Girls Und Panzar also was hilarious in the fucking stupidity.

My Hero Akadamia is not that bad. Manga is AWESOME! (Allows for much more creativity and freedom which shows when you compare the ecchi of many animes to the scenes in the manga) i.e in Naruto, the first 10 comics. When they are taking a test they find out one of the obstacles is lead by a badass mental girl who then proceeds to cut Naruto by the face, stab him and then grapple him from behind as the manga shows the text she uses with heart shapes and the pictures show her literally licking naruto’s blood off his cheek. (Not a dream scene, she does that in the manga)

wdym, manga is good, anime is just better though.

art quality is pretty subpar compared too other mangas
profile views make characters look the same, the style can be overly flat aswell and similar angles/povs are used repeatedly, but it’s alright I guess, there’s just better

Lock this thread for I have won.

The only animes I have found time to watch in the past few years has been AoT, MHA, RWBY, and OPM. But even then, I’ve only watched all of the episodes of just two of those.
