PDW, 1911, Pocketknife?

Hey, so I couldn’t find any information about this on Google, Steam forums, Unturned Bunker, or Youtube.

For some reason, three very peculiar, very old weapons have inexplicably had their names changed. These are as follows:
Honeybadger —> PDW
Colt —> 1911
(magazine —> 1911 Magazine)
Swiss Knife —> Pocketknife
The descriptions of these items have changed to match, however the coded names (.DAT files, icon names) have not.

What I’m wondering is “why?” Why did these items get changed, and why these three specifically? Is there a beta going on that the playerbase just hasn’t noticed? Screencaps included below.

I’ve known of this for a day or two, and I came up with the reason of possible copyright issues, maybe Nelson got alerted of a possible infringement or maybe he just doesn’t want to risk it- that’s my reasoning behind it.

I can see that being a reason for the Swiss Army Knife, but Honeybadger seems to be a weird thing to get a copyright strike for, since he isn’t using the AAC logo. Same with Colt; I don’t think 1911 was an improvement.

he should rename the colt a different horse name, and the honeybadger: honeybear

I came up with the reason of possible copyright issues

If it were a copyright issue, why was the Luger not changed?

Luger isn’t the name of the gun it’s simply a nickname based off of the developer of the gun since it’s easier to say.

Since this is true, why did he change “Colt”, which was, as you said, a

nickname based off of the developer of the gun

Because Colt is an actual company that (is one of a few that) retains the rights to M1911 production. therfore putting their company name out there and modeling the gun with the company name violates copyright yadayadayada I’m not a lawyer.

Alright, that’s a fair assumption. If that’s so, however, why would he change the Honeybadger? The company who makes it is AAC, and that’s not mentioned in the gun’s name.

The names of the humvees, military jeeps, hind and hueys have also been changed

I can see Humvee being taken down as copyright, but
-Huey wasn’t an official name for that helicopter,
-Jeep is a general name almost 70 years old,
-Hind wasn’t an official name either, it was a NATO designation.

Jeep is the name of a company that manufacturers cars, so that one makes some sense.

It was confirmed by Nelson a couple of days ago that changes were coming this update to remove potentially genericized trademark terms from Unturned content.

Emphasis on the bolded text. If anyone is wanting to apply legal concepts to this decision, please do so with proper context. The change isn’t really a huge deal though, anyways.

Does this mean people won’t be figuring out how to spawn a honeybadger for a day or two on servers? Could be nice for enemies to have more weapon variety.

I use 116 to spawn it anyways on RocketMod servers.

Update notes did not mention that the items were renamed…

Molton is a pvp player confirmed?

Gotta play everything at least once. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

In RP’s case, it was only once.

Colt and Honeybadger are both trademarked, I’m assuming the Swiss Army knife was as well
