The server deciding your graphic settings

In 3.x most people have their graphic settings very low, both for not having grass in the way of your vision and getting the best fps

I know that there are people who wannt to play with foliage and other settings on, but that puts them at an disadvantage against people who have it turned of.

But forcing foliage and thouse kinds of settings on everyone would not work (some people play on potatoes)

So by having the server deciding the “minimum” settings that you have to use would make it so everyone would be on the same level and no one would be at an disadvantage, so if you wannt to play with foliage and have the computer to do it you could play on servers with foliage enabled

And why would you wannt to play with foliage on?

  • it gives you the option to take cover in the grass

  • camo clothes and ghili suits would work better

  • you could track players and animals by trails in the grass

  • visually it looks nice (at least in my opinion)

This is just one idea on how to make it work, if you have a better idea or possible problems with this system and how to make it better or possibly a whole diffrent solution then pls share it in the comments of the discossion

The current plan is just to always have foliage of some sort, even on the lowest settings, but if the ability to disable foliage and such is deemed essential, it could just be that official servers have minimum graphical requirements.

Ok that sounds good

To be honest there shouldn’t be a no foliage option. If you can’t handle a little grass then you shouldn’t be able to play the game in general.

Just my few cents.

About minimal settings foliage, would it be taxing on the game to have minimal settings grass to be an elevated layer of a half-see through dotted grass-color that would be above the terrain?

Some like having the current grass texture hover above the grass, which would kinda hide people under it.

(Which for some reason doesn’t show the transparent bits)

Heard of the game SCUM, he could try do something like that, only invisible players would be a bit weird,(which is what happens in scum) but that game determining you visibility and changing how the other players see you could fix this, because on the lowest foliage setting, the player would only see what the games says it should see.

Servers would all put it to high if this was the case, so for people with shit ping or a low-end PC, it would just inconvenience you, fuck up your game, and fuck up your life. So no, this would be a terrible idea.

Well its better having it this way rather then forcing foliage on everyone (which might still be the case)

But yes, if every server turned the minimum foliage to high it could be a problem, a solution would be to only have the offical servers to have the option to decide your minimum settings

If there isn’t an option to turn off foliage (as is currently the plan) a mod or plug-in could be allowed by non-official servers to disable foliage.

I think that this is actually rly smart, I want to have nice graphics but also at the same time I dont wanna have to sacrifice the advantage of no grass. I think that there should always be foliage and such just amount of detail changes.

If the game is optimized well. Most newer APUs should be able to run game minimum at least.

though most people on steam have a 1050 or better, there will always someone who complains that their gt730 isn’t good enough

Unturned 3.0 has less fps on Low than the witcher 3 on ultra 2k…

no, that is just blatantly untrue

when i had a gtx960 i couldn’t even run witcher 3 on ultra 1080p
but unturned was 60fps with everything on max.

but that doesn’t even matter since we are talking about 4.0

my point was that someone will always complain no matter how optimized it is

WarThunder’s famous Ultra Low Quality problem :3
Where guys (especially those from e-sport), able to play High/Ultra quality at >60 FPS, but plays at ULQ (lowest + with option to support old videocards) to have an advantage.

I agree, although unturned isn’t an esport or whatever you defintely get an advantage with lower graphics. I think unturned has the potential to be very pretty but instead i walk around with random yellow splots for farms and such just cuz i don’t want to die. Although I do think that you should be able to play no matter what kind of graphics you have.

I would love this, Then I could finally use Cameo legitimately.

No it might just be software, driver and compatability issues.

Ok, as a life-time potato player, I need to ask everyone here…

How the actual f*ck playing on low settings gives you advantage, apart from disabling grass?

I’ve played on lowest settings almost everytime, and in games like Unturned I see no sh*t past 50 meters away; only a very reduced FOV, insanely compressed UI and pixelated and blurry edges everywhere.

If you had it on higher settings, your fps might get slower & such
