it wouldnt be a “code rewrite” he has controller support it would be a code export so alot of the work is done for him and imagine the exposure unturned would get in turn
You clearly know very little about game coding.
The controller support is one piece of the puzzle. You literally have to redo the entire game’s code for a console version, top to bottom. It’s not as easy as just changing the control scheme, you have to change your compatibility with OS, hardware/software, a bunch of internal processes and computing-related stuff that I don’t even want to get into, infrastructure/language, and on top of that, you also need to integrate the functionality of the console itself, such as the overlay, services, and other things that are exclusive to the console.
Saying that a console port is just turning your input method into controllers is about as accurate as saying that 4.0 is just 3.0 but with higher graphics. In reality 4.0 is a full code rewrite on a new engine with everything from new gameplay to a multi-input interface and revamped mechanics, and like a console port, it’s a world of difference.
What you actually said was “I’m not asking for cross platform, just support for MY console”.
This ^
You can’t just set the option to “console” in unity and hit compile. Most games have an entire team handling the porting of a game to other platforms.
In addition to what everyone else said: console ports also have their content rebalanced and redesigned from a mechanical standpoint.
your right i know you cant but if he already has everything fixed up for a controller to do everything anyway and have keyboard support for the console the only thing he’d have to “rewrite” is online using xbox live instead of steam and he made this game from scratch this should be easy stuff for him
That’s not the only thing…
Look let’s just say it would be a lot of work for one guy to do, but would be pretty neat if it happened, and leave it at that.
I mean like hes already making 4.0 a whole new game why cant he basically make 2 at once? i mean you have groups out there like system era (astroneers) who’s building their whole game for with everything from cross platform with only a handful of people and they update all the time just as much as nelson plus im surprised he wouldn’t have a team working with him
As GreatHeroJ has tried to explain to you, game design is much more complicated than you think. When you create a game as complex as Unturned, come back and tell us how easy it is.
Nelson likes working on Unturned as a hobby and he enjoys being able to tweak everything himself. That’s part of why he works alone.
Congrats, I give up.
I don’t think you’ll ever understand how hard it is to port a game to console. Your reasoning has massive holes in it, and on top of that, Nelson simply doesn’t have the time, unless you want to delay another year or two without 4.0 releasing on any platform, which is ridiculous.
It just seems like all you care about is getting Unturned onto your console specifically without any regard for the long development process that has to happen, or even the fact that Nelson would have to do a console port for other consoles too.
This isn’t even considering that Nelson has never coded a console game before. He’s not a team, not even a “handful” of people. He’s a single person with a life outside of game development, believe it or not, because Unturned is his hobby.
See you in another 4 years, if not more
Actually im more interested in the exposure unturned would get imagine the funding he’d have he’d e able to do that for more of a living if he doesnt already
If console players are truly interested and really want to play 4.x, then they can go get a computer. It’s not worth slowing down development massively just for more players.
While it may be more popular than it is right now, Unturned’s current status is perfectly fine. Unturned has 24 Million+ downloads (I believe more than 27 Million now), and when they hear about a new Unturned that has better graphics, is more optimized, and has better mechanics, 4.x will get a ton of attention. Unturned’s popularity doesn’t need anything from consoles.
And Nelson does this as a hobby but is making a living out of it. Consoles aren’t necessary to him getting paid.
